Â
About The Falcons
The Falcons come into 2022 after a winless campaign last year, but Lackawanna College has reason to believe this year will be much different.
Â
Lackawanna returns a pair of players from last year's team, including middle hitter
Hunter Heeman (New Milford, PA), who missed the last campaign because of injury. Also returning is middle hitter
Olivia Lynwood (Scranton, PA), a dual-sport athlete who also played women's basketball at Lackawanna College last year.
Â
Also new to the Falcons are several players, including outside hitter
Makayla Jones (Weatherford, TX), libero
Melanie Pinillos (Miami, FL), middle hitter
Charisma Aikens (Honesdale, PA), outside hitter Delaney Hollenback, outside hitter
Brittney Shaffer (Gratz, PA), defensive specialist
Jenna Krall (Susquehanna, PA), and
Nadia Monteiro.
Â
The Falcons also have a new head coach in
Shelby Morgan, who spent the previous seven seasons as the head coach at Cedar Crest College, where she helped transform the Falcons from a conference basement dweller into a perennial threat, culminating in an NCAA tournament appearance in 2021.
Â
About the Opponents
Similarly to Lackawanna College, the Lehigh Carbon CC Cougars also spent a few years off through the pandemic before returning to action, but it's been three years since the Cougars have hit the court.
Â
Lehigh Carbon (0-1) enters today with a match already under its belt, a loss at home to Penn State Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. The Nittany Lions of PSU swept through Lehigh Carbon, 3-0 (25-7, 25-6, 25-12), but the Cougars got three kills from Madison Bauer, as well as 13 digs and two kills from Anna Benner. Marissa Haines and Leslie Tineo Lopez each had two service aces for the Cougars.
Â
The head volleyball coach for Lehigh Carbon is Saulia Centeno.
