SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Lackawanna College Falcons finally get their 30th season underway this Saturday, September 3rd, when they take on the Nassau Community College Lions at 1:00pm at PenFed Field at Scranton's Memorial Stadium.
The Falcons (0-0) come into the contest ranked #15 in the country in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I polls, while Nassau (1-0) holds a #2 ranking in the NJCAA Division III polls.
It's the first game of the year for Lackawanna College, while Nassau comes in off a 27-7 victory against Sussex County CC last week.
Lackawanna College will kick off its 30th season of football in search of history, standing at 196 program wins, just four away from the 200 win barrier. Coach
Mark Duda, in his 29th season at the helm for the Falcons, has been in charge for 192 of those wins.Â
The Falcons are 10-18 all-time against Lions from Nassau, by far their most-storied rivalry since the Lackawanna's first season in 1993. The two schools have played each other every season since then, with the exception of the pandemic-shortened spring 2021 season.

Lackawanna College gathered for Media Day last Sunday, ahead of the game, and the Falcons were excited for the season to start. Quarterback
Barry Brown is back for another year leading the Lackawanna College offense, and he anticipates another big year from his unit:
Offensive lineman
Elijah Philippe is ready to step into a starting role along the offensive line after watching former Falcon (and current Penn State starter) JB Nelson shine last year. Philippe had a great spring practice, and is already receiving multiple high-end FBS offers for next season:
Defensively, the Falcons return some experience, but also bring a fresh new face in cornerback
Janaasah Boone. Boone, a local high school standout in his time at Valley View, is a versatile athlete who can play multiple positions, but landed in a role that he says he can thrive in with the Falcon secondary:
Joining Boone at the back of the defense will be
Keeno Arrington, who is ready to step out of his dad's (Penn State legend Lavar Arrington) shadow and make a name for himself on the big stage. Arrington will be one of the leaders on the field for the Falcons this season:
And you had to know we were going to talk to the legend,
Mark Duda. Now in his 29th season, coach Duda can't believe he's at the point where he's seeing kids of the players he's coached start to come through the program. He's excited about his 2022 edition of the squad, and believes they can achieve big things:
