In A Match-Up Of Nationally Ranked Opponents, The Falcons Travel To Georgia To Take On The Bulldogs

9/16/22

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Lackawanna College Falcons head back out on the road this weekend for a massive clash with nationally ranked Georgia Military College on Saturday, September 17th down in Milledgeville, GA at Davenport Field on the campus of Georgia Military. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm ET.

The Falcons (2-0) are ranked #12 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I polls, while GMC (3-0) is one spot ahead of the Falcons at #11.

The Bulldogs have been dominant so far this season, outscoring their opponents 120-7 in three games, while shutting two opponents out. In last week's match-up with ASA Miami, Georgia Military had seven sacks and 13 tackles-for-loss, while scoring 18 first quarter points en route to a 39-0 victory over the Silver Storm. The only touchdown the Bulldogs have allowed all year was a 79-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter of the Monroe game.

Lackawanna enters the game after knocking off Monroe 28-13 on the road. The Falcons scored all 28 of their points in the second and third quarters, despite struggling mightly on offense. The Falcon defense had nine tackles-for-loss and five sacks, and shut down several Mustang drives. Lackawanna overcame a solid opening Mustang drive and a turnover deep in their own territory to hold Monroe to a pair of field goals, early, and eventually managed to score thanks to a Barry Brown (Philadelphia, PA) pass to Justin Thompson (Ambridge, PA) in the second quarter, then got a touchdown run from Jordan Sellers (Paterson, NJ) after a bad punt snap gave the Falcons possession in the red zone. They'd tack on two more scores in the third, thanks to a pair of excellent kick returns that gave the Falcons excellent field position.

Lackawanna College enters the contest chasing history in this, its 30th season of competition. The Falcons have 198 program victories, and head coach Mark Duda, the man in charge for 29 of those seasons, sits at 194 career victories, the most among active coaches in the NJCAA.

The Falcons are 7-9 all-time against Georgia Military, but have won the last five in a row, including last year's match-up in Milledgeville, 31-14. In that game, the Falcons ran for over 200 yards and shut down the potent Bulldog offense in the season finale for both teams. The Falcons are averaging 37.2 points per game in the last five match-ups, and have scored over 30 points in each of those last five games. Georgia Military hasn't beaten Lackawanna College since 2015. This will be the first of two match-ups between the schools.
