SCRANTON, Pa. – The visiting Harford CC baseball team looked every bit as dominant as their 40+ win record indicated, as the Division I Fighting Owls scored 17 runs in the first three innings, then another ten over the final two to run away with a 27-2 win in seven innings over Lackawanna College on Saturday afternoon at Scranton HS.
The Falcons (21-15) labored on offense throughout, while Harford hit the gas early and never looked back. The Fighting Owls (42-9) jumped out immediately, with the first batter hitting a 2-1 pitch to deep center field, simultaneously launching the ball over the fence and the Owls into a lead they'd never surrender.
What followed was a five-run first inning, with the Owls launching deep shots into the outfield, and the Falcons immediately on their collective back feet. Starter
Ty Morris got chased after two innings, and the relievers for the Falcons couldn't stem the tide, as Harford plated eleven runs in the top of the third to make it 17-0 after 2.5 innings of play.
After a rough entrance in the third,
Marc DeNunzio actually settled things down with a pair of scoreless innings for the Falcons, but Lackawanna couldn't get anything going at the plate to try to cut into the lead. Harford put another five on the board in the sixth, then five more in the seventh, stretching the lead out to 27, before the Falcons finally plated a couple in the bottom of the seventh. The Fighting Owls managed to get the outs they needed to keep the scoring to a minimum, and send Lackawanna to its third straight loss on the weekend.
