BSB: Lackawanna College Blanks Misericordia JV, 9-0

Box Score 4/18/22

DALLAS, Pa. – The Lackawanna College baseball team got a strong group effort from the pitching staff, and backed that up with seven of their nine runs in the in the final four innings, coming away with a 9-0 victory over the JV squad from Misericordia University at Tambur Field on Monday afternoon.

Lackawanna College (16-10) took on a Cougars program that, on the varsity level, is 21-11 on the year, second in the MAC Freedom, and are the ten-time defending conference champions, having been to the NCAA DIII World Series last year. The Falcons scored two runs in the top of the second on a Daniel Helfgott two-out single, and struggled to get runs across, but kept Misericordia off the board thanks to a strong outing from Ty Morris, who picked up the win with four scoreless innings of work.

Eventually, the Falcon offense got going, scoring four runs in the top of the sixth, and then one run in each of the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. Zach Walsh scored a run on a Misericordia error, then drove in another with an RBI single to score Quinn Hanafin. In the top of the ninth, Ian Murphy hit his first collegiate homerun, smashing a no-doubter over the outfield wall to round out the scoring.

Beside the strong start from Morris, Marc DeNunzio went three strong innings in relief, and Daniel Keenan and Matthew Stam each pitched an inning to close things out for the Falcons.

The Falcons have no time to rest up, with a single nine-inning game set for tomorrow, Tuesday, April 19th,   on the road at Salem Community College, a team they split a doubleheader with earlier this year. That game is set for a 3:30pm ET start on Tuesday. Lackawanna also has a Region XIX road doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday, April 20th, when they travel to Sussex County CC to take on the Skylanders. The first game of that doubleheader is set for 4:00pm ET, with the second to follow at 6:30pm ET.
