MBB: Strong First Half, Balanced Offense Keys Lackawanna Win

The Falcons Place Four Players In Double-Figures To Pick Up Their First Region XIX Win Of The Year

11/29/22

SCRANTON, Pa. – Facing the defending Region XIX champions and a potential 0-2 hole in Region play, the Lackawanna College Falcons turned up big, taking a 22-point lead into halftime and holding off the late-charging Terry Hawks from Delaware Tech on their way a 77-68 victory at home on Tuesday evening in the Lackawanna College Student Union.

Lackawanna (5-2, 1-1) hit seven three-pointers and shot 46% in the first half on their way to a 51-29 advantage at the break, and while they cooled off significantly in the second half (36%), they managed to hold on to their lead throughout the half to pick up the win. Four players hit double-figures in scoring, with Nasir Brown (Wilmington, DE) leading the pack with a game-high 22 points and seven rebounds. Malek and Caleb Mims (Bethlehem, PA) added 14 and 13 points, respectively, with Malek going 6-for-14 from the field and Caleb adding a team-high six assists. Aamir Mack (Atlantic City, NJ) came off the bench to score 14 points, and Nashawn Johnson (Bronx, NY) added seven points and a season-best 16 rebounds, leading a Falcon effort on the glass that ended in a +20 advantage.

Syed Myles led Del Tech (5-4, 0-1) with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Ethan Schmidt scored 17 points for the visitors. The Terry Hawks made eight three-point shots in the second half to help bring them back within eight points, but it was too little, too late, as they shot just 35% for the game, and were just 4-for-5 from the free throw line.

Lackawanna College has its first Region XIX road game next on the schedule, when the Falcons travel to Mercer County CC to take on the Vikings on Saturday, December 3rd. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00pm ET at the Mercer CC Fitness Center in Trenton, NJ. Last year, Lackawanna knocked off Mercer twice in the regular season.
