SCRANTON, Pa. --Â Mahogony Collins had a season-high 18 points and 13 rebounds, and
Gabrielle Jackson had ten points to help propel the Lackawanna College women's basketball team to a 56-51 win over Essex County College on Tuesday night in their home Region XIX opener, inside the Lackawanna Student Union gymnasium.
Â
The Falcons (3-4, 1-1) held a lead throughout the contest, until midway through the fourth, when the Wolverines took the lead back at 48-47. That's when Jackson (Darby Twp, PA) subbed back in, immediately scoring on an and-one, causing a turnover, and giving the Falcons the boost they needed to come away with the win, on a night when they shot 34% from the field, and just 17% from downtown.
Â
Collins (Harrisburg, PA) had her best game of the year, benefiting from 17 Falcon assists on the night, and converting around the rim on offense. She also had another stellar defensive performance, swatting six shots in the first home win for coach Monica Spence. Cianna Roberts (Brooklyn, NY) and Dominique Geiger (Plainfield, NJ) each added nine points in the win.
Â
The Falcons are not scheduled to play until December 8
th, when they travel to Raritan Valley CC for a road contest in Region XIX.
