SCRANTON, Pa. -- Lackawanna College men's soccer couldn't overcome three first half goals from Region XV's SUNY Ulster, as the Falcons fell in their NJCAA DII Subregional semi-final, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore.
The Falcons (6-2-0) fell behind thanks to three Ulster goals in 36 minutes, with a Modou Badjie tap-in sandwiched by a pair of nifty goals from the speedy Senator forward, Javier Rodriguez. Lackawanna College had a smattering of chances in the first half, including a header from Robert Jarvis Humphreys (Soufriere, Dominica) that just went over the crossbar. Trailing 2-0, it looked like the Falcons may have gotten a goal back, when a Humphreys cross was deflected by Jose Gonzalez (Scranton, PA) and fell to Anthony D'Angelis (Holtsville, NY), who smashed the ball into the net, only for the officials to rule the Falcons offside on the attack. Just a minute later, the Senators responded with a long ball to the Falcon defensive side, where Rodriguez chased it down and beat the keeper to make it 3-0, a margin Ulster would hold into the break.
Lackawanna College responded four minutes into the second half on a goal from D'Angelis, giving the Falcons some life, but it took Ulster just six minutes to find a goal, this time from Frank Rodriguez, off an assist from Javier, who would add the fifth and final goal of the day just one minute later.
SUNY Ulster (10-2-1) now advances to the subregional final, where they'll take on Region XXI representative Massasoit CC. That game will kick at 11am ET on Sunday, October 30
th at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore. That match will have a video livestream available on the Region 19 Sports Network.
The Falcons finish their season at 6-2-0, their first season over .500, and tied for the most wins in one season in the seven years the program has competed.
