FB: #12 Lackawanna College Set For Homecoming Dance With Monroe College

The Falcons haven't been home since September 3rd, and are set to face the Mustangs for the second time this year

10/28/22

SCRANTON, Pa. -- On Saturday, October 29th, the Lackawanna College Falcons football team will have a home game for the first time in eight weeks. Fittingly, it's Homecoming Weekend, and the Falcons are ready to dance with a familiar partner: The Monroe College Mustangs.

Lackawanna College (4-1) is ranked #12 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I poll. The Falcons come into the game after a 13-day layoff. The last time it played a game, Lackawanna College set several school records, including points in a game, with an 88-0 walloping of Queen City Collegiate Prep, back on Sunday, October 16th at a neutral site in Virginia. The Falcons ran for 354 yards and had seven touchdowns on the ground, while the defense scored three touchdowns, two on interception returns, and a safety, limiting the Sharks from Queen City to -68 yards of total offense. Terez Worthy (Salisbury, MD) ran for 128 yards and three touchdowns, while Barry Brown (Philadelphia, PA) passed for two scores, which helped him to break the all-time mark for touchdown passes in a career. Benjamin Paserk (Batavia, NY) set a school-record with eleven extra points on the day.

The Mustangs (3-3) enter the game after a bye week, their second of three scheduled breaks. The last game for Monroe came two weeks ago in a road victory at Wagner JV, 42-0. The Mustangs had 216 yards and four scores on the ground in what was their most complete game of the year. The Mustangs forced four turnovers and limited the Wagner JV squad to just 24 yards of total offense on the day.

Lackawanna College, in its 30th season of competition, secured its 200th win in program history with the victory over Queen City. The Falcons now have 200 program victories, and head coach Mark Duda, the man in charge for 29 of those seasons, sits at 196 career victories, the most among active coaches in the NJCAA.

This is the eleventh-ever match-up between Lackawanna College and Monroe College. The teams have played each other every season dating back to 2012, apart from the pandemic-shortened spring 2021 season. This is the first time in the rivalry that the sides have met for a second time in a year.
