SCRANTON, Pa. -- Matched up against one of the best Valorant players in the world on a very good Bryant & Stratton Bobcats squad on Thursday evening, the Lackawanna College eSports Valorant team knew it had its work cut out. The Falcons showed a lot of guts, but the Bobcats were able to cruise past for the win with a 2-0 (13-8, 13-3) sweep.
Coming into their NJCAAe Valorant matchup, the Falcons (0-2) knew that the odds were stacked against them. BSC host one of the top-200 Valorant players in the world and that world-class skill was on display. The best-of-three series started on the Ascent map, with the Falcons opting to attack first. Lackawanna College came out very strong in the first seven rounds and were actually able to maintain a 6-1 lead over the star-studded Bobcats lineup. Falcons captain Doug Morrissey (Roaring Brook Twp, PA; Gamertag: Globe) used his expertise to captain the Lackawanna attacking plan, helping stake the Falcons to their early advantage. However, eventually, the Bobcats talent began to wear on the Falcons, and BSC came roaring back to tie things up at 7-7. After the teams switched offense and defense, Lackawanna couldn't muster much more fight, as the Bobcat attack worked with devastating effect, giving BSC the round one win at 13-8. Globe finished the match as the only Falcon to keep a positive K/D/A going 24/14/4.
The Bobcats chose Bind for the second map of the best-of-three, and, initially, both teams traded wins in the early rounds, but, BSC would quickly take control of the match completely. Every round, BSC played a well-rounded match, positioning themselves properly, rotating to snuff out any promising Falcon momentum, and using their supplies and utilities well, throughout. Lackawanna College began to lose its composure, taking big swings and risks, and Bryant & Stratton took advantage to extend their lead. The Falcons were only able to secure two more round wins before the series came to a close. The BSC Bobcats would win in the 16
th round with a score of 13-3 over Lackawanna, securing the overall match victory at 2-0.
The Falcons' Valorant drops their second straight match to start the year in the NJCAAE Valorant Invitational Season. The Valorant squad will look to bounce back next Thursday, 10/20 at 7:00pm ET versus Wallace State.
