SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lackawanna College Women's Basketball team overcame a tight first quarter to outscore ASA College Brooklyn 50-19 in the middle periods and help secure their first win of 2022, and their fifth win on the year, 88-46, on Saturday afternoon at the Lackawanna Student Union.
Â
Ny Jackson scored her season-high 21 points for the Falcons (5-4), 15 of which came in the first half, and was one of five different Falcons in double-figures for Lackawanna College.
McKeyah Duley hit a season-high five three-point shots on her way to 19 points, while Ashanté Amos had 17 points and a team-high 7 assists to help the Falcons to victory. Lackawanna College shot 41% overall, but hit a season-high 16 three-pointers as a team, eleven coming in the second half where they shot 61% from downtown, and scored 27 points off turnovers against ASA Brooklyn (2-7). The Lackawanna defense, on top of forcing 22 turnovers from the Avengers, also held ASA to 26% shooting overall, and just 3-for-26 from downtown.
Â
The first quarter started a little sluggish for both teams, with a few possessions going back and forth with turnovers before the offenses started to wake up.
Ny Jackson hit a pair of threes in the quarter, but the Avengers kept answering thanks to early play from Idalis Lee, who was matching with jumpers of her own and kept ASA within striking distance, down 18-14 after one.
Â
The second quarter saw the Falcons start to swing momentum their way, as Lackawanna, thanks to some transition buckets from Amos and
Thays Torres, started to get out and run on the Avengers, opening up a 32-20 advantage at the 6:12 mark of the 2
nd quarter. A pair of threes from Duley and
Ny Jackson helped the Falcons lengthen their lead even further, at 41-22 with 3:25 to go in the 2
nd quarter, before the Avengers used a mini 5-0 run to make it 41-27 at the break. The Falcons shot 45% from the field in the first half.
Â
Lackawanna College picked up where it left off in the third quarter, getting transition buckets and playing suffocating defense. The Falcons outscored the Avengers 27-6 in the third quarter, paced by their transition offense and the three-point barrage that started to click. Aside from Duley's four threes in the second-half,
Cianna Roberts, who finished with a season-high 11 points, knocked down three of her own, while Amos and Jackson added two more for themselves from downtown. The lead ballooned to 68-33 after three quarters, and the Falcons would cruise to the final in the fourth quarter from there.
Â
With the win, the Falcons pick up their first win of the spring 2022 semester. The next game for Lackawanna College is a home game on Tuesday, January 11
th, when they face the NJCAA DIII #4 Monroe College Bronx Express. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm ET at the Lackawanna Student Union. The game will be video streamed live on the Lackawanna College Athletics YouTube channel, at
