Esports: Valorant Sweeps Gogebic in NJCAAE Action

9/30/21

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Lackawanna College Esports Valorant team was itching for their NJCAAE match versus Gogebic CC, after a no-show victory dampened their opener last week. The Falcons ended up sweeping the Samsons 2-0 on Thursday night, picking up their second win on the season.

The best-of-three series started out on Split with the Falcons playing defense, as they dug their feet in on site immediately and the battle began. The first round came down to a 1v1 but, Lackawanna College was able to get the upper hand. The momentum was now with the Falcons and from here on out, they would not drop a single round to Gogebic. In round five, Nathan Ayers (Gamertag: Quakian) achieved an ACE by eliminating all five Samson players on his own. Going into the last round of the first map, the score was 12-0 and the clean sweep came down to a 1v3 situation for Edwin Acosta (Gamertag: Axomaly) on Raze. Axo was patient and used his utilities to his advantage to finish the three Gogebic players in order to secure the first map win. Strategic defensive placement and solid communication were instrumental to the success of Lackawanna College in round 1 of tonight's match. Axo finished with a KDA of 20-6-3 which sat him high on top of the leaderboard.

Ascent was the second map of the night, and once again the Falcons would start out on defense. Gogebic found a bit of a rhythm in the opening rounds and were able to win the first two rounds in a row, putting Lackawanna College back on their heels. That momentum quickly changed in the Falcons' favor as they re-strategized, made some clean rotations, and stopped the Gogebic attacks before they could start. Lackawanna College went on to win out the remaining rounds on defense and followed suit on offense. The final score of the second round was 13-2 and once again Edwin Acosta sat atop the leaderboard with a KDA of 26-7-0.

The Falcons' Valorant squad moves to 2-0 in the NJCAAE fall season and will be back in action next Thursday, October 7th at 7 PM EST. Stay tuned to the Lackawanna College Esports Facebook and Twitter to find out who their next opponent will be.
