9/18/21

GREENSBORO, NC. – The Lackawanna College Falcons overcame a 14-point first half deficit to defeat the Silver Storm of ASA College Miami, 31-21, on Saturday afternoon at RL Billings Stadium in Greensboro, NC.

The Falcons (1-1) trailed 21-7 with 3:42 to go in the second quarter, before putting together a drive that ended in a Cameron Ceccotti 23-yard field goal with :35 seconds remaining in the half, sending Lackawanna College into the half with a 21-10 deficit.

The offense would kick on for Lackawanna College in the second half behind the running of Isaiah Edwards, who had a pair of short-yardage runs into the endzone to give the Falcons the lead, 24-21, at the 1:45 mark of the 3rd quarter. Edwards would finish with 69 yards rushing on 12 carries.

The Falcon defense continued to hold serve, and that gave the offense time to cook. Quarterback Barry Brown launched a pass intended for Delvin Palmer, that got tipped up to Cohen Russell, who ran it into the endzone from 16-yards out and gave Lackawanna College what would prove to be the final margin at 31-21 early in the fourth quarter.

Things didn't start so well for Lackawanna College, as ASA College Miami (0-3) scored on a pair of touchdowns to take a 14-0 lead with six minutes to play in the opening quarter. The Silver Storm took the opening possession 54 yards in ten plays to score on a 4-yard run from Quasean Holmes. After the Falcons came up empty on downs at their own 41, ASA marched right back down the field and scored on a 13-yard run from Holmes.

The Falcons would strike back with a 60-yard touchdown pass from Barry Brown to Jawon Hall, which made it 14-7 with 5:53 remaining in the first quarter. Momentum continued to swing towards Lackawanna College, as the Falcons forced an interception courtesy of Tyrece Mills, giving the Falcons the ball on their own 30-yard line with 4:40 to play in the first, but Lackawanna College would not be able to take advantage of the turnover.

After the teams traded punts a few times, the Silver Storm looked to have taken control of the game with the third Holmes touchdown run of the game to make it 21-7 with 3:42 to go in the first half, but the Falcons mounted a drive that ended in the Ceccotti field goal that brought them a little closer before the halftime whistle.

In the second half, the Falcons limited ASA to just four possessions, all of which ended in punts.
