MSOC: Falcons Fall in Season Opener

Box Score 9/11/21

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lackawanna College Falcons fell in their season opener, 5-0, to CCBC Catonsville on Saturday at the Loyola Athletic Complex in downtown Scranton.

The high-pressing Cardinals pressure frustrated the Falcons (0-1), as Catonsville dominated possession and peppered the Falcons' goal with numerous shots and chances.

Williams Yami opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a bullet-header off a corner kick from the right side. He would end the game with a hat-trick, adding two second half goals.

The Cardinals quickly found a second in the 22nd minute, when Victor Heredia scored after a stellar individual run, making it 2-0.

Neftali Sanchez forced a save from the CCBC keeper in the 24th minute, as Lackawanna College started to settle into the flow of the game.

Ahmed Kaid forced another save from the CCBC keeper in the 36th minute, gifting the Falcons a corner kick after a spell of pressure from Lackawanna College, but the Falcons couldn't capitalize.

Matthew Pfohl had a pair of saves in the 39th minute, parrying a shot from the Cardinals' Gernot Ching, then stopping the rebound shot from Casey Grantham. Pfohl would add one more save in the 43rd minute before the halftime whistle.

CCBC would only increase the pressure in the 2nd half, adding a third goal in the 48th minute from Christian Angel. The Cardinals would then add Yami's second and third goals in the 53rd and 59th minutes, respectively.

The Falcons had a massive chance in the 72nd minute, when a free kick from the right side of the box was knocked short to Amari Forbes, who lofted a cross to Noah Barton, but his header was saved by the Catonsville keeper.

Lackawanna College's best chance came in the 86th minute, when a foul in the box gave the Falcons a penalty kick. It was not to be, however, as the CCBC keeper guessed the right way, and dove to his right to stop the Amari Forbes shot from the spot.

The Falcons are back in action on September 18th, when they travel to take on Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, PA.
