SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lackawanna Football Team has earned individual and team accolades heading into the 2021 Fall Football Season.
The yearly release of the College Football America Yearbook ranked the Top-30 JuCo teams in the country heading into the fall, and also picked the Junior College Preseason Starting Lineup for the 2021 season, the CFA's version of a preseason All-America team. The teams and players were selected from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), the two major sponsors of junior college football.
The Lackawanna Falcons were picked as the preseason #19 team in the country, just one of only two teams selected in the top 30 from the Eastern Time Zone. The other "east coast" team selected was Georgia Military College at #23. Lackawanna plays GMC in Georgia on November 20
th to close out the regular season.
Falcons fans will also recognize a few team names in the top 30, including Snow College at #4 and Mississippi Gulf Coast at #5. The Falcons beat Snow College in 2019 on the road in Utah, on their way to a national title game appearance, where they fell to Mississippi Gulf Coast. Snow College came back to Scranton this spring and exacted some revenge, beating Lackawanna in the lone Falcons home game of the Spring 2021 season.
The Falcons were also represented on the Junior College Preseason Starting Lineup for the 2021 season, as safety
Tyrece Mills was chosen as one of four DBs on the defensive team.
The Falcons kick their 2021 fall season off on Sunday September 5
th in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where they'll take on the Iowa Central CC Tritons. Kickoff is scheduled for noon. You can see the whole Falcons football schedule
