Scranton, PA - Saturday afternoon the Lackawanna College Falcons left the court with the Region 19 Men's Basketball Title. In a hard-fought contest where there were numerous lead changes. Lackawanna took charge in the closing minutes to claim an 83-75 victory.
Nashawn Johnson was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after scoring 23 points, grabbing seven rebounds and recording four assists in the final.
Making significant contributions to the Falcons' win were
Ahmir Ellzy,
Jaylen Davis and
David Pope. Point guard, Ellzy, tied Johnson for the team's leading scorer with 23 points. Davis registered a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds and Pope went 6 for 12 from the field and 1 for 2 from the foul line for 14. The Region title is the first for Lackawanna since it last won the crown in 2012.
With the victory, the Falcons move on to the NJCAA's District East Tournament to play for an opportunity to advance to the National Tournament. That tournament starts next weekend at Raritan Valley Community College with the Falcons facing the the champion from Region 20. Region 20's Garrett College and Pennsylvania Highlands Community College play tonight for the championship at 7pm
