Scranton, PA -Â Saturday was a perfect day for a baseball doubleheader especially if you are a fan of the Falcons and pitching. Lackawanna got superb efforts from
Kyle Borrello and
Kyle Scott in sweeping Monroe College by scores of 4-3 and 3-2.
Kyle Borrello pitched a masterpiece in Lackawanna's game-one victory over Monroe College. Borrello hurled six innings relinquishing two earned runs on one hit while striking out three and walking a solidary batter. Monroe scored its runs off Borrello in the sixth when they broke up his no-hitter with an RBI double and added a run with a subsequent sacrifice fly.
The Falcons scored all of their runs in the fourth on an RBI double by
Matt Nyce, two Monroe errors, and
Brandon Ernst's RBI single.
The Monroe pitching staff held Lackawanna to four hits, Nyce's double, a base hit by
Cesar Castro and a single and double by Ernst. Monroe scored their final run in the seventh when they scored on
Justin Gohsler's wild pitch. It was the only mistake he would make as he held Monroe to that one run on one hit to earn a save in his one inning of work. Gohsler also recorded a strikeout without giving up a walk during that inning.
Kyle Scott did not want to be outdone in game two. Although he had a rough first inning during which Monroe scored a run on an RBI single, he settled down and pitched a complete seven-inning game, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out 11 and walking three. His only mistake took place in the seventh inning when he gave up a Monroe home run.
Lackawanna's bats woke up in the nightcap as they registered 11 hits. However, the Monroe pitching staff effectively spread them out to hold the Falcons to three runs. Those three runs all scored in the third inning when Ray Vorhees homered and
Quinn Hanafin and Cody Flecher each singled in a run.
Lackawanna had three extra-base hits, the homer run by Vorhees and a double by both
Brandon Ernst and Hanafin. The Falcons also had four players who had multi-hit days, Jake DiCeasare (3-0-2-0), Vorhees (4-1-2-1), Ernst (4-1-2-0) and Hanafin (3-1-2-1)
