Bel Air, MD - Thursday the Lackawanna College baseball team dropped both ends of a twilight doubleheader to Harford Community College. The Falcons lost the opening game 5-2 and then fell again in the nightcap 12-4.
Game one was a pitcher's battle as Lackawanna scored two runs on three hits while Harford recorded five runs on five hits. Unfortunately for the Falcons three of those Harford hits were four-baggers that resulted in four runs. Early in the contest Lackawanna had a two-run lead when Cesar Castro drove in a run with a double and Cody Fleischer drove in another with a single. The Falcon scored both of those runs in the second inning.
In addition to Castro's double and Fleischer's single George Castro contributed the team's only other hit, a double in the third.
Jacob Kelchner suffered the loss despite pitching a solid game. He hurled six innings giving up five runs, one of which was unearned, on five hits. He struck out six and walked four.
In Game two the Lackawanna bats came to life as they built a 3-1 lead after two and a half innings. Quinn Hanafin started the scoring with an RBI single in the first. Although Harford scored in the bottom of that inning the Falcons answered in the second with a run and in the third on Hanafin's second RBI base hit. Unfortunately, the flood gates opened on the Falcons' pitching staff as the Fighting Owls scored six in the third, two in the fourth, another in the fifth and two in the sixth. Lackawanna's only response during that stretch was a run in the sixth on a Raymond Vorhees sacrifice fly.
Cody Fleischer had the Falcons' only extra-base hit, a double in the second. Lackawanna also had two players who contributed multi-hit games. That twosome was Jesnel Soto (2-2-2-0) and Quinn Hanafin (4-0-2-2)
Cameron King suffered the loss.
