Scranton, PA - Lackawanna College came into tonight's match with some serious confidence after winning last week with only 5 players for the first two maps. Busan was chosen for the first control map and right away the Falcons went to work against Gogebic in order to capture the first point. Both teams battled back and forth in the first round, but Lackawanna got the better of Gogebic with some amazing teamwork. The second round started to move in Gogebic's favor as they were able to capture the point, but our tanks were able to clean them up and take back control of the round. The best of 3 series was now 1-0 in favor of Lackawanna College.
The second hybrid map of Eichenwalde was chosen for the next battleground. The Falcons were able to almost instantly push through Gogebic's defense in order to release the payload and begin their push to the checkpoint. Lackawanna College was pushing forward with aggression and picking off the defense left and right with combined efforts from everyone; DPS, tanks and healers. The Falcons pushed their payload to its final destination in just over 4min, giving Gogebic a tough challenge to win the round. Michael "Salimander" Bochnovich pulled out his self-proclaimed #1 NA Doomfist in order to round out the Falcons' defensive efforts and what a show he put on. Gogebic was being stopped at every attempt to release the payload. Nathan "Quakian" Ayers on Ashe had the perfect vantage point from behind to pepper the Gogebic offense, preventing them from being able to focus fire on any of the Falcons' defense. The Falcons stopped the Samsons from releasing the payload over and over and eventually won the second map as well bringing the series to 2-0 in Lackawanna's favor.
The third and final map of Paris was selected for the following battleground which is an interesting pick considering there is only one entry onto the first point which creates a devastating choke point if it's not approached properly. AJ "gummypwns" Smith on Orissa threw up cover for Salimander on Bastion and together they did not let Gogebic through that choke point at all. It wasn't until Gogebic decided to switch to a dive comp using Dva and Winston that they were able to crash onto the point to bring out the first team fight of the final map. With little time to spare, Gogebic was able to capture the first point and move on to the second point where there would be team fights left and right. The Falcons seemed slightly frazzled after losing the first point and eventually Gogebic was able to capture the second point as well. Lackawanna would need to figure out a way to counter that first choke point on their offensive push and they did just that with Quakian switching to Sombra in order to sneak around the defensive hold and hack the enemy Bastion so he could not sit on his perch and spray the oncoming Falcons offense. Quakian also managed to hack the enemy Reinhardt which meant Gogebic was down a shield, leaving their defense to be picked off by the aggressively pushing Falcons. Lackawanna was able to capture both points in succession with help from Paige "momjeans" O'Hara on Gogebic's final attempt to touch point by using Sigma's Gravitic Flux which lifted the enemy team off the ground before they could touch the point as the clock ticked down. This last-ditch effort would send the third map into overtime where the Falcons would have 4 minutes to capture the first point to secure the victory. Lackawanna would dive onto the point being led by an unorthodox dive by gummypwns on Reinhardt that knocked the entire Gogebic team off their defensive perch where momjeans, Salimander and Quakian would clean house and allow the Falcons to capture the point right away, securing the victory.
The Falcons win in week 2 with another 3-0 sweep and move to 2-0 in the NJCAAE Spring Season. Be sure to stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter for scheduling info on our next Overwatch matchup which will be Monday, February 22nd at 5pm EST.
