EPHRAIM, Ut. – Three first quarter touchdowns staked the #4 Snow College Badgers to an early lead, a deficit that would prove to be too great for Lackawanna College to overcome, as the Falcons fell 51-28 on the road at Stoddard Field at Badger Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Falcons (5-3) fell behind by three scores in the first quarter, as the Badgers (7-1) took advantage of some Lackawanna College miscues. After a Falcons' punt on their opening drive, the Badgers quickly moved the ball down the field and scored on a touchdown pass. On the ensuing possession, Lackawanna College would throw an interception on a tipped pass deep in their own territory, setting up the Badgers for a quick score to make it 14-0. The third Badger score would come after a Falcon defender fell down in pass coverage, giving the Badgers a wide-open shot down the sideline on a long pass, making it 21-0 with six minutes to play in the first quarter.
Â
Lackawanna College would claw their way back into the game, as the offense starting moving the ball. The first score came courtesy of
Antwan Squire, who scampered up the middle from five yards out to make it 21-7 early in the second quarter. The Falcons would score again when
Barry Brown found his favorite target,
Colbie Young, in the endzone to bring Lackawanna College a bit closer.
Â
With the score 24-14, Snow in front, and time winding down in the second quarter, the Badgers were driving and deep into Falcon territory, trying to add another score before the end of the half. Lackawanna College's defense held firm, keeping Snow out of the endzone and off the scoreboard to close out the half.
Â
The second half started much like the first, with Snow College putting points on the board and the Falcons unable to answer. Snow kicked a field goal, put together a touchdown drive, and then another on three straight possessions to blow the game open at 41-14 late in the third quarter.
Â
Deondre Scott would add a touchdown for the Falcons early in the fourth quarter, and
Barry Brown would hit
Jawon Hall later in the fourth quarter to make it 44-28 Badgers, before Snow scored again with under three minutes to go, giving the Badgers the final margin at 51-28.
Â
