MBB: #13 Niagara County CC Overpowers Lackawanna College

Box Score 11/14/21

SANBORN, NY – The Lackawanna College Men's Basketball team hung tough, but couldn't quite keep pace with Niagara County CC, as the Thunder Wolves led wire-to-wire in a 98-73 win in the finale of the Niagara County Tip-Off Classic.

The Falcons (1-2) trailed by as many as 29 and could never truly threaten the lead from Niagara County CC (3-1), who finished with nine players at eight our more points, including six players in double-figures.

Lackawanna College had two players in double-figures, highlighted by Magd Abdelwahab's game-high 23 points off the bench, to go with his team-high six assists, six rebounds, and 8-for-13 shooting. Jaylen Davis was second on the team with 13 points and five rebounds. Lackawanna College shot 40% from the field, but was 8-for-24 from beyond the arc, and finished 11-for-17 from the FT Line.

Niagara started the game with a blistering pace to make it 9-2 just over two minutes in. The Thunder Wolves would lengthen their lead to 21-6 with just over twelve minutes to go in the half, as the Falcons struggled to hit shots on offense to keep pace with Niagara.

A pair of Jakob Curnow threes highlighted a mini-spurt from the Falcons, who would close the first half gap to 25-17 just past the midway point of the half. Niagara would push the lead back out, but the Falcons closed again to 35-30 with just under three to play after back-to-back three pointers from Abdelwahab and Nashawn Johnson. However, Niagara, as they seemingly did all night, got a basket, got a stop, then hit a timely three to get back up by double-digits. After a little more back-and-forth, the Falcons trailed 48-37 at the break.

The second half got away from Lackawanna College, as the Falcons struggled from the field (38%, 25% on 3PT FGs) and Niagara ballooned their lead to 25 points within the first eight minutes of the half at 67-42. Within two minutes of game time, the lead got to 79-50, the largest of the night, and the Thunder Wolves never saw the lead dip below 20 points for the rest of the game.

Lackawanna College gets the week to rest up, then gets back to work on Saturday, November 20th, when they host Essex County College in the second game of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team at the Lackawanna Student Union. The men's game is set for a 3:00pm ET tip-off. You can watch the game on YouTube.com/LackawannaCollegeFalcons.
