WVB: Falcons Fall in Doubleheader Against Northampton CC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 10-20-21

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lackawanna College Women's Volleyball team dropped a pair of home matches to Northampton CC, losing 3-0 in both matches, on Wednesday night in the Lackawanna Student Union.

Match #1: Northampton 3 – 0 Lackawanna (25-2, 25-4, 25-14)
The Falcons struggled out of the gate against the Spartans, as Northampton CC had 27 service aces in the match, eleven coming in the first set. The Spartans ran off two separate seven-point streaks to get out to a 14-2 lead. After a Lackawanna College hitting error, Northampton wouldn't surrender serve for the rest of the match, scoring the last eleven points in a row to win set one, 25-2.

The second set wouldn't start much better for Lackawanna College, as Northampton jumped out to a 19-1 lead thanks to nine more service aces and five kills from five separate players. The Falcons would get a few points back, courtesy of a hitting error and a service ace of their own from Paetan Benson, but the Spartans would cruise to a 25-4 second set victory.

The third set had possibly the best start the Falcons have had all season. Lackawanna College took advantage of a pair of Spartan errors to take a 2-0 lead, and stretched it to 5-2 thanks to a few more mistakes. Northampton and Lackawanna would trade points, but the Spartans went on a three point run to go from 7-6 down to 9-7 up. From there, the Falcons would never get closer than two points, as the Spartans eventually got their serve together, getting help from Jordan Appleton's six kills in the set, four of which came in the final stretch. Northampton would win the set 25-14, and the first match 3-0.

Match #2: Northampton 3 – 0 Lackawanna (25-8, 25-6, 25-9)
The first set of the second match was cagey at first, but the Spartans put together a seven point run in the middle of the set to stretch a 8-4 lead to 15-4. From there, Northampton would coast on a pair of aces and several hitting errors from Lackawanna College to win the first set 25-8.

The second set was more of the same, as the Spartans went on a run to stretch what was a 3-2 lead into a 17-3 advantage. The Falcons fought back for a few points, but Northampton won the second set 25-6.

Northampton, after leading 3-2 against Lackawanna in the third set, went on an 11-point run to stretch it to 14-2, and never looked back from there, ending the set 25-9 and winning the second match 3-0.

The Falcons are back in action on Thursday, October 21st for their final match, away at County College of Morris. That match is set to start at 6:00pm.
