BLUE BELL, Pa. – The Lackawanna College Women's Volleyball team dropped a pair of matches (3-0, 3-0) against Montgomery County CC on Wednesday evening.
Â
The Falcons (0-4) were playing in their first matches in eleven days, due to match postponements and schedule adjustments. The Mustangs (8-3), due to the same postponements and changes, hadn't played in nine days before the doubleheader. You wouldn't have known it, though, with the Mustangs blazing out to a 5-0 lead in the first set of the first match before the Falcons were able to score on a hitting error. Montco would win the first set of the evening at 25-4.
Â
Facing a 17-4 deficit in the second set and on the wrong end of a run of points from the Mustangs, the Falcons would claw a few more points out with a few blocks at the net and some service errors from Montgomery County, who would win the second set 25-8.
Â
In the third set, once again facing a massive deficit, the Falcons went on a quick scoring run where they scored a service ace, a hitting error, and a kill in quick succession. The Mustangs would recover, and win the third set 25-10, clinching a 3-0 sweep in match one.
Â
After a 25-7 first set of the second match, the Falcons, after falling behind 9-2 in set two, got a nice string of points, thanks to a
Sydney Kostick kill, a service ace, a hitting error, and a kill from
Paetan Benson to make it 11-8. Lackawanna College could never get it closer than three, but fought valiantly before falling 25-18 in the second set.
Â
The third and final set of the night saw more of the same fight and determination from the Falcons, who got within 5-3 and 7-4 in the early stages of the set. Despite the effort, the talent for Montco would take over, as the Mustangs ballooned their lead to double-digits and cruised the rest of the way, winning the set 25-11 and the match 3-0.
