Esports: Overwatch Sweeps NJCAAE Action

10/1/21

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Lackawanna College Esports Overwatch squad swept through to a 3-0 win over their Trinity Valley CC opponents on Friday night, picking up their second win of the season. The best-of-five series started out on the Lijiang Tower control map where Lackawanna College was able to capture the first point fairly quickly. However, Trinity Valley managed to crash back onto point and steal it away and hold for the remainder of the first round, giving them a bit of an advantage going into the next control point. Trinity Valley tried to use a teleport strategy to get onto the next point but Anthony Smith (Gamertag: Gummypwns) and Paige O'Hara (Gamertag: Momjeans) were able to clean up their push and let the remaining Falcons jump in to help capture the point. Several more team fights would ensue on point, but Lackawanna College would chase Trinity Valley away over and over with Momjeans earning the POG with a beautiful D.Va bomb that turned into a triple kill. The score was now 1-1 on Lijiang Tower, pushing the match to a tiebreaker round on objective C, where Lackawanna College was able to capture point first, dig their feet in, and hold off Trinity Valley for a first round win.

The second map of the night was set as King's Row and the Falcons were able to release the payload on offense in just under two minutes. Lackawanna College would move through the streets on King's Row with ease, but Trinity Valley stopped the payload just shy of its final resting place. The Falcons would regroup, dive back onto the payload and clear Trinity Valley away in order to successfully deliver the payload and lock in 3 points in their offense push. Now, Trinity Valley would have to follow suit, release the payload, and push it to its destination in order to push round two to another tiebreaker round. Trinity Valley was able to capture the point and release the payload with the help of their high-perched Bastion on top of the statue. The Falcons defense came to play tonight on King's Row, and they held Trinity Valley underneath the first set of arches, preventing them from reaching the first checkpoint. Donovan Curley (Gamertag: DarkMage) on Mei was instrumental to the Falcons' success on King's row, even earning the POG with a nice little 3-piece elimination, helping the Falcons to the second map win.

The final map of the night was set as Hanamura, an assault map. Lackawanna College opted to start out on defense first where they would hold off Trinity Valley from the first point until 20 seconds were left on the clock. Trinity Valley managed to dive in and capture point and move on to point B with literally seconds to spare. Trinity Valley and Lackawanna College would battle it out on point B for quite some time, trading eliminations back and forth. The Falcons were able to hold them off long enough for the clock to run out, giving Trinity Valley only 1 point on their offense attempt. Missael DeJesus (Gamertag: LordYakuza) managed to get a triple-kill with his Mei gameplay, helping the Falcons win their defensive hold. The Falcons switched up their comp a bit on their offense push, switching Gummypwns from Rheinhardt to Hammond which allowed him to dive on point A almost immediately, causing a distraction for the remaining Falcons to dive in and capture the point in under two minutes. The push onto point B by Lackawanna College happened so quickly that it was hard to catch the action! With a perfectly executed teleport play to the left side of point B, the Falcons dove in and captured the point instantly, sealing the 3-0 sweep over Trinity Valley CC.

The Lackawanna College Overwatch team will be back in action on Monday, 10/4 @ 7 PM EST with their NACE matchup. Stay tuned to to the Lackawanna College Esports Facebook and Twitter to find out who the next opponent will be.
