West Windsor Township, NJ – After winning their 20th game of the season, the Lackawanna Women's Basketball Team was back on the road, as they traveled to New Jersey to face Mercer County Community College. With only two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Lady Falcons were looking to remain at the top of the Region XIX standings. In order to do that, they would need to get past an upset minded Lady Vikings team, that was also looking to keep a hold of their position in Region XIX, heading into the tournament.
With
Kyla Smith sidelined with an injury,
Miliesha Troche got the start for Lackawanna and she took full advantage of it. In the first quarter, Troche connected on three 3-pointers to get things started for the Lady Falcons.
Ciaira Loyd,
Briaunna McCullough and
Alayah Cowan also were able to connect on 3-pointers and all of the sudden the Lady Falcons saw themselves with a large lead.
Keyanah Price would establish herself down low for 4 points in the quarter and give Lackawanna a 25-5 advantage.
In the second quarter, Mercer would settle down offensively and start to find the basket. However, the Lady Falcons had an answer for whatever the Lady Vikings threw at them.
Miliesha Troche picked up right where she left off in the first quarter, by connecting on another three 3-pointers, while
Jamie Brann came off the bench and added a 3-pointer of her own.
Keyanah Price continued to get position down low for 4 points and when the buzzer sounded, Lackawanna took a 48-23 lead into the locker room.
The third quarter would see
Briaunna McCullough lead the Lady Falcons with 6 points, as they continued to distance themselves from Mercer County.
Keyanah Price also improved on her play as she stepped out for a 3-pointer and then added another 3 FG's.
Ciaira Loyd continued to direct the offense, giving Lackawanna scoring opportunities. She would connect on a FG and also get
Kiana Williams involved in the scoring. As the quarter ended, the Lady Falcons found themselves up 70-31.
Even though they were up by 39 to start the fourth quarter, Lackawanna continued to play pressure defensive and take advantage of scoring opportunities.
Miliesha Troche scored her 7
th and 8
th 3-pointers of the game, while
Alayah Cowan had her third double digit performance in the last 4 games.
Keyanah Price scored 8 points in the quarter and
Briaunna McCullough added another 4-points, to give Lackawanna a dominating lead. As the game ended, the Lady Falcons would cruise to a 100-41 victory.
With the win, Lackawanna moves to 21-3 on the season and 12-1 in Region XIX. This is the second game in a row they have scored 100 or more points and on the year, it is the 6
th time they have reached the century mark in a game.
Keyanah Price led all scorers with 25 points and a game high 14 rebounds.
Miliesha Troche connected on eight 3-pointers, for a total of 24 points. Her performance tonight moved her into 4
th place, nationally, in 3-point % at 47.3%.
Briaunna McCullough added 17 points for the Lady Falcons and
Alayah Cowan came off the bench to score 12 points. Lackawanna returns home on Thursday February 13
th for a match-up with Cecil College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm.
