New Jersey – The Lackawanna College Women's Volleyball team entered the first round of the Northeast District Region XIX Tournament having won 4 out of their last 6 games. They began pool play on Saturday at 12:00pm against Ulster Country Community College and quickly fell behind 0-2, losing the first two sets 18-25 and 23-25. However, the Lady Falcons did not get frustrated as they would mount an amazing comeback, winning the next 3 sets in a row, 25-20, 25-23, 15-13 to take the match 3-2. Lackawanna was led by EPAC All-Conference selections
Amaya Townsend,
Jamie Brann and
Ethylne Lockhart. Brann finished the match with 18 kills, 45 digs and 3 solo blacks, while Lockhart finished with 16 kills, 45 digs and 2 blocks. Townsend would add 6 service aces along with 36 digs to complete the match.
In the second match of pool play, Lackawanna squared off against Harcum College. Unfortunately, the outcome would not be the same as the match against Ulster County Community College. Harcum swept the Lady Falcons 25-20, 25-20, 25-20 to take the match 3-0. Brann and Lockhart led Lackawanna again with 23 and 28 digs respectively.
Faith Labad also contributed with 19 digs for the Lady Falcons.
With the win against Ulster County Community College, Lackawanna has qualified for the Northeast District Region XIX Semifinals. They will face Mercyhurst Sunday 11/10 at 1:00pm.
