Lackawanna College Football wins school record 19th in a row with 69-6 victory over Hocking College

Box Score

Scranton, PA – The Lackawanna College Falcons Football Team came into today's game as the #3 ranked team in the NJCAA National Poll, Back to Back Northeast Football Conference Champions and on an 18 game winning streak.  After playing 2 conference games in a row, on the road, some would have thought the Falcons may have been overlooking Hocking College.  From the opening kickoff, Lackawanna quickly put those thoughts to rest.  The defense came to play and proved why they are one of the best units in the Country.  They caused Hocking to make a QB change in the first half, but that didn't change the Falcons' game plan.  The defense accounted for 6 interceptions (3 for TD's), with Mike Crawford returning an INT for a 25-yard TD in the 1st quarter, David Amankwa with a 41 yard INT TD return in the 2nd quarter and Jasiah Purdie capping things off with an 80 yard INT TD return in the 3rd quarter.   No matter what Hocking's offense tried, the Falcons had an answer for it.  In addition to the interceptions, the defense also forced 2 fumbles and recorded 7 sacks on the Hocking QB's.  Gianni Gamble led the Lackawanna defense with 4 solo tackles and 1 INT.  On the season, the Lackawanna defense is only allowing 9 points/game.

As well as the defense played, the offense played just as well, or even better.  Freshman QB Matt Cavallaro threw for 210 yards and 6 TD's.  Cavallaro spread the ball around and threw for three 1st quarter TD's to Quentin Sanders for 40 yards, Tylon Papallo for 18 yards and Sameer Parks for 4 yards.  He would add three more TD passes in the game connecting again with Sameer Parks and Quentin Sanders for 25 and 21 yards respectively, and adding another when he connected with Calvin Bell for a 10-yard TD pass.  Cavallaro and the offense were 3-3 in the Red Zone and would add another 100 yards rushing for a total offense of 310 yards.

As the clock hit zero, Lackawanna College walked off the field with a 69-6 victory over the Hawks of Hocking College.  The win was the Falcons 19th in a row, which set a new school record.  With 3 games left in the season, Lackawanna will take it one game at a time.  Next Saturday, Oct 26th, they will celebrate both Homecoming and Sophomore Day when they take on Nassau Community College.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00pm at Scranton Memorial Stadium.
