Al Callejas, Jr. joins the Falcons’ program after serving the past 5 seasons as an assistant coach, for his father Al Callejas, Sr., at Holy Cross High School. He has also spent the last 5 years instructing 6th grade through college level players in individual skills training, both in-season and offseason. Prior to coaching at Holy Cross, Callejas served as an assistant coach for 3 seasons, under Bron Holland, at Pocono Mountain East and was promoted to head coach during the 2004-2005 season, where his team won 23 games. As a player, Callejas scored a total of 1,392 points for the University of Scranton and was a 3-time MAC All-Conference selection. In 1999 he led the entire NCAA (all divisions) in 3-point shooting percentage at 54% and shot 48% during his career. He also finished his career shooting 90% from the free throw line. In addition to his successful playing career, Callejas has been taking part in competitive shooting competitions since 2015. Competing against international pro basketball players and current NBA shooting coaches, he has won shooting tournaments in New York, New Jersey, Las Vegas, and Chicago. He most recently won the NBA hot shot competition at the all-star weekend in Chicago. “Al brings a dynamic to our coaching staff and program that will be unique,” said Head Coach Landon Gabriel. “He has been a successful player and coach, but recently, his work as a skills trainer, is the thing that will set us apart. Having a person on staff primarily focused on individual players developing the skills needed to improve their game will pay off exponentially for our players, our team, and our program.”
