SCRANTON, Pa. -- The second Lackawanna College Athlete of the Week for the 2026-2027 school year is Lackawanna College women's soccer student-athlete Sophia Arvelo (Allentown, PA)!

Sophia faced constant pressure last week against some of the best teams in Division II, as the Falcons hosted Kutztown, receiving votes in the preseason polls, and went on the road to play #3 West Chester, the favorites to win the PSAC East and the entire conference. The Falcons lost the pair of games, but Arvelo came up with 22 combined saves across both games, including 17 saves in the game on the weekend at West Chester.

Arvelo is a first-year student-athlete at Lackawanna College, studying Criminal Justice. She was a four-year starting keeper for Bethlehem Catholic in high school. She was named to the Olympic Development Program (ODP) in January 2026 to represent the East region as part of the 2008 Girls squad. 

The Falcons are back to action on Wednesday, September 9th, when they are set to host Mansfield University in another PSAC contest for the Falcons. Kickoff is set for 3:30pm ET at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore.
