SB: Lackawanna Downs Morris For Doubleheader Sweep

Lackawanna College Had No Problems With County College Of Morris In Region XIX DII Action On Sunday

4/12/26

SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College softball drew 31 combined walks across two games to keep the pressure on the basepaths and piled up 48 combined runs in a Region XIX Division II doubleheader sweep against County College of Morris on a sun-soaked Sunday afternoon at Scranton HS softball field. Lackawanna won game one, 26-0, in five innings, then took game two, 22-2, in five innings.

The Falcons (30-9, 13-1) faced little resistance in both games, scoring 13 runs in the first inning of game one and nine runs in the first inning of game two. Morris (1-11, 1-9) committed 12 errors between the two games and walked Lackawanna College 31 times.

In game one, the Falcons had three-straight singles to score two runs and get ahead, 2-0. In fact, the Falcons would plate five runs before the first out was recorded, using a two-run single from Mia Scalese (Moscow, PA) and an RBI double to left from Madison Pirolli (Southampton, PA). A fielder's choice was the first out and scored another run to make it 6-0, and the Falcons scored seven more runs, all with two outs, before the inning ended, coming on three RBI singles, two errors, and two bases-loaded walks to get ahead 13-0 after one inning.

Riley Knott (Clarks Summit, PA), Elizabeth DePrimo (Dunmore, PA), and Scalese had RBI singles, to make it 16-0 in the bottom of the second, and Alexis Shotwell (Lehman, PA) added a two-run single with two outs that made it 18-0 after two innings.

Morris broke up Scalese's no-hitter in the third with a one-out single, but Mia got around it with a pair of groundouts to keep the Titans from scoring. Lackawanna added three more in the third, then three more runs in the fourth to get ahead 26-0, and Scalese retired the side in order in the fifth to end the game early.

Scalese allowed just one hit in five innings, striking out seven batters for her seventh win of the season. Kyleah Edwards (Taylor, PA) was 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBIs, while Knott finished 4-for-5 with five runs and five RBIs. Scalese helped herself at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs. Shotwell was 1-for-2 with two runs and four RBIs.

In game two, Lackawanna scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning, plating those runs on just two hits, taking advantage of six walks and three hit batters. The two hits were killer, however, as Ayahna Fleisher (Duncannon, PA) hit an inside-the-park grand slam to center field, while Knott doubled to right to score the final run that made it 9-0 after one inning.

In the second, five-straight walks added two runs to start the home half, and a hit batter with the bases loaded forced in another. A two-run single from Knott to center made it 14-0, and an error at short pushed another run across. An RBI single from Haleigh Mazol (Stroudsburg, PA) closed out the scoring and made it 16-0, Falcons, after two.

Lackawanna scored two more runs in the bottom of the third, thanks to a two-run single from Mekenzie Revere (Ansonia, CT), but the Titans finally broke through in the top of the fourth. A leadoff double, followed by a one-out single, put runners on the corners. A double to left plated the first run, and a sharp single to right gave the Titans a second run, before starter Abigail Yenalevitch (Larksville, PA) struck out a pair to end the inning.

Knott added two more RBIs on a single, all part of a four-run bottom half of the fourth, and Yenalevitch, despite a pair of two-out singles from Morris in the fifth, retired the side for the win, getting the final out on a liner to third base.

Yenalevitch allowed two runs on six hits in five innings, striking out seven for her fifth win of the year. Knott was 3-for-3 with five RBIs, while Mazol and Yenalevitch each had two hits. Yenalevitch scored four runs and three RBIs, while Fleisher had two runs scored and the grand slam.

The wins keep Lackawanna in first in region play, while pushing the Falcons to 30 wins for the season. Lackawanna College is heading into a big week, starting with its next contests on Tuesday, April 14th, with a doubleheader at Mercer County CC. Mercer is 10-2 in region play at 25-3 overall. The doubleheader is set for a 3:00pm ET start in West Windsor Twp., NJ.
