SB: Big Game Two Helps Lackawanna Split With Catonsville

The Falcons Earned A Doubleheader Split With A Strong Game Two On Sophomore Day Against Catonsville

4/11/26

SCRANTON, Pa. – After missing a ton of opportunities in game one, Lackawanna College softball woke up at the plate in game two, plating seven runs in the first inning to help the Falcons earn a doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon against CCBC Catonsville. The Falcons fell 6-1 in game one, then won 12-0 in five innings of game two.

Lackawanna (28-9), after a tough game one at the plate, wasted little time in game two, scoring seven runs in the first inning to pounce on the Cardinals (16-15), and then cruised the rest of the way for the victory, thanks to another strong performance from Mekenzie Revere (Ansonia, CT) in the circle.

Ayahna Fleisher (Duncannon, PA) and Kyleah Edwards (Taylor, PA) led the game off with two-straight singles, and Riley Knott (Clarks Summit, PA) stepped in and crushed a 1-2 pitch over the left field fence to give the Falcons the 3-0 lead. Two more singles put two more Falcons on, and, with two outs, the Falcons suddenly had the bases loaded after a walk. Haleigh Mazol (Stroudsburg, PA) reached after a ground ball at third was mishandled, allowing a run to score and keeping the inning going. The lineup turned over and Fleisher made the Cardinals pay, doubling to deep center field and clearing the bases to make it 7-0 after one inning.

Revere pitched around three hits to lead the game off in the first, and then around another hit in the second to keep the Cards scoreless, and Lackawanna got another run in the bottom of the second on a hard single to left from Mackenzie Adolfson (Throop, PA) that extended it to 8-0, Falcons. Lackawanna had the bases loaded with two outs, but a fielder's choice eliminated the runner at home and kept the lead from expanding even further.

After Revere shut down Catonsville in the third, a sac fly, followed by an RBI single from Adolfson made it 10-0, Falcons, after three innings.

Revere stranded two more runners, striking out the side in between, and Lackawanna added two more runs on an error at third and a double to deep center from Knott, pushing the lead to 12-0 heading into the top of the fifth. Revere retired the side with a pair of strikeouts and a liner to center, with the final out coming when Mia Scalese (Moscow, PA) charged in and made the catch for the last out.

Revere struck out eight and gave up just four hits for her eleventh win of the season. Fleisher was 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs, while Knott had the homer and the double for four RBIs and three runs. Adolfson had three hits and two RBIs, and Edwards and Laniah Tasker (Chambersburg, PA0 each had two hits.

Lackawanna struggled to get the offense on track in game one, stranding 12 baserunners through the game. Meanwhile, the Cardinals had five extra-base knocks, pounding out 15 hits and keeping the Lackawanna defense on its toes.

Catonsville got on the board early in game one, using an RBI triple with one out, followed by an RBI single to get ahead 2-0. It could have been more, but a hard liner to second turned into a double play to end the inning. Lackawanna had the bases loaded with two outs in the home half, and a bases-loaded walk pushed a run home to cut the deficit to 2-1. A strikeout stranded the bases loaded and kept the inning from becoming a big rally.

A one-out triple for Catonsville put a runner in scoring position, and the Cardinals cashed in that runner with a two-out double to center that made it 3-1, Catonsville. Another single put runners on the corners, but Fleisher, the starter for game one, got a ground out to third to retire the side.

The Falcons stranded two baserunners in the second, Catonsville stranded two of its own in the third, and the Falcons wasted two singles to start the bottom of the third, leaving a pair on and not scoring once again.

Catonsville added a run I the fourth inning on a solo homer to lead things off, but the Falcons kept things from spiraling with a runner caught stealing, followed by a line out to third. In the bottom half, Fleisher tripled to left with one away, giving the Falcons a huge chance to get something home, but a strikeout, followed by a fly out to center, kept Lackawanna from scoring.

Catonsville wasted a double in the fifth, and Lackawanna wasted a one-out single in the home half, sending the game to the sixth inning.

The Cardinals used a one-out single, followed by a two-out single, to put runners in scoring position, but a bunt play ended with a play at the plate, and Lackawanna got out of the jam. In the bottom frame, Mekenzie Dineen (Wilmington, DE) singled to left with one away, and Fleisher pushed a single on a looping drive to left field to put two one with one out. Adolfson pinch hit, but her fly ball to right was caught, and then a Knott hard liner was caught at second to strand the runners once again.

In the seventh, Catonsville added a pair with three-straight one-out singles, pushing the Lackawanna deficit to 6-1. Tasker doubled to lead off the bottom half, but Lackawanna was unable to score her and get the rally going, and the Falcons fell in game one.

Fleisher took the loss, giving up six runs on 15 hits in her seven innings. She was 3-for-3 at the plate, going 6-for-6 in both games combined, while Tasker was 2-for-4 and Gracie Sokol (Belle Vernon, PA) was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Before the games got underway, Lackawanna recognized its sophomore class with the annual Sophomore Day ceremony in the pre-game moments. The Falcons honored ten sophomores, which included: Isabella Rodriguez, Mekenzie Dineen, Abigail Yenalevitch, Lindsey Tasker, Gracie Sokol, Haleigh Mazol, Tori May, Mia Scalese, Laniah Tasker, and Riley Knott.

Lackawanna College gets back to action on Sunday, April 12th, with a Region XIX Division II doubleheader against County College of Morris. First pitch is set for 2:00pm ET at Scranton HS softball field.
