SCRANTON, Pa. – An impressive defensive performance helped the nationally ranked Union College squad cruise past Lackawanna College women's basketball, 92-36, in Region XIX Division II play on Tuesday evening inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
The Falcons (7-12, 3-8) competed with just six players due to injuries on the squad, and the Owls (18-3, 10-2) took complete advantage, forcing 38 turnovers and scoring 51 points off those giveaways, pushing the pace with a punishing full-court press and transition offense.
Union, #13 in the NJCAA Division II polls released on Tuesday, was dominant right from the start, holding the Falcons without a score through the first 15 minutes of gametime. Lackawanna was held scoreless through the first quarter, and did not score until 4:32 remained in the second quarter, when
Desireé Nales (Allentown, PA) hit a three-pointer to break the ice. In that time, the Owls had built a commanding 46-point advantage.
Union shot 62.5% in the first quarter alone and hit 48% for the game, putting four players in double-figures. Darrian Jackson scored 20 points and had ten rebounds, while Jasmin McKay and Cianna Papineau each scored 19 points. Zakiyyah Lindsey had 12 points and nine assists.
The Falcons shot just 22% from the floor for the game, while going 4-for-21 from downtown.

st. Tip-off is set for 1:00pm ET in Edison, NJ, and the game will be the first of a doubleheader, with the men's teams playing afterwards at 3:00pm ET.
