SCRANTON, Pa. – A key second half run for Lackawanna College women's basketball helped the Falcons down the Colts from SUNY Orange CC, 52-43, on Tuesday evening in non-region action inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
Â
The Falcons (7-10) won their third-straight game thanks to a killer 25-1 run that spanned over 12 minutes in the third and fourth quarters, blowing open a six-point deficit into an 18-point Lackawanna lead.
Â
Orange (1-13) had played tight to that point, carrying a 29-23 lead just a few minutes into the third quarter. That was where the Falcons started to hit their stride.
Â
Sophia Summa (Dunmore, PA) scored on a soft jumper, then made a turnaround a possession later to bring the Falcons within two.
Abbie Larson (Olyphant, PA) hit a pair of free throws to tie the game, her first two of nine second-half points. Summa then hit a three-pointer from the corner to give the Falcons a 32-29 advantage, capping a nine-point swing.
Â
After Orange hit one free throw, the Falcons really started to come on, going on a 16-0 run to pull away. In the run, Larson hit a pair of free throws, then Summa hit another three, then Larson hit a corner three to really send the Falcons' bench into hysterics, giving Lackawanna a 41-30 advantage with seven minutes remaining.
Â
The lead expanded to 48-30 with 3:54 remaining before Orange finally scored to stop the bleeding. The Colts fought back from a deficit that reached as high as 19, getting within nine with 20 seconds remaining, but it was too little, too late, and the Falcons took a third-straight victory.
Â
Neither team shot well for the game. Orange shot 23% for the contest, going just 2-for-23 from downtown. The Colts had 32 turnovers, which Lackawanna turned into 20 points. Madison Olsen led the charge with eleven points, while Adriana Joy had ten.
Â
Summa led the Falcons with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Larson had a career-high eleven points and 12 rebounds. Lackawanna also got eleven points from
Alania Ortiz (Allentown, PA). The Falcons shot just 20% from the floor, making just four three-pointers, but went an efficient 20-for-27 from the free throw line.
Â
Lackawanna College will look to keep streaking with an important home region contest this coming Saturday, January 24
th, when the Falcons are set to host Salem CC. Tip is set for 1:00pm ET inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
