SCRANTON, Pa. --Â Lackawanna College baseball picked up its fifth Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) Player of the Week nomination this season, as sophomore student-athleteÂ
John Hughes (Hamilton, NJ) was named as the Baseball Player of the Week in the EPAC this past week, according to a release from the conference this past Monday morning.
Delaware County CC track and field student-athlete Gustavo Dias-Oliveira was named as the Track & Field POTW for last week.
"Jack" was a combined 8-for-11 (.728) in three of the four games for the Falcons last week. Hughes had a 1.987 OPS (.714 OBP + 1.273 SLG)Â last week, driving in six RBIs, scoring seven runs, drawing two walks, and hitting three doubles. Against Westchester on Tuesday, he went 4-for-5 with four runs, two doubles, and two RBIs. He didn't play against Delco, but went a combined 4-for-6 with a double, three runs, and four RBIs in the doubleheader split against UCAP this past Saturday. Hughes is now first on the Falcons this year with a .445 batting average, posting a team-best 1.432 OPS on the year. He has 48 runs, tied for first on the team, and his 17 doubles are second on the team. He has ten homers, also second on the team, and his 46 RBIs are third this year. Hughes has drawn 28 walks, first on the Falcons this year, and he has a team-high slugging percentage (.857) and OBP (.575). He has an eleven-game hitting streak and has had two or more hits in his last four games.
Hughes is a sophomore student-athlete at Lackawanna College, studying Business, and was named Lackawanna College Athlete of the Week for his performance, as well.Â
Baseball will start its Region XIX Division II playoff schedule on Thursday, May 8th, with a first-round game at 10:00am ET against Sussex County CC at Mercer County Park in West Windsor Twp., NJ. A full preview of the double elimination tournament will be available on Wednesday.Â
