SCRANTON, Pa. --Â Lackawanna College baseball picked up its sixth Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) Player of the Week nomination this season, as sophomore student-athleteÂ
Liam O'Leary (Souderton, PA) was named as the Baseball Player of the Week in the EPAC this past week, according to a release from the conference this past Monday morning.
Liam was the sole EPAC recipient this week.
Liam pitched his best game of the year when the Falcons needed him to, fanning a season-high 13 batters in the 13-6 win against Mercer County CC this past weekend in the Region XIX DII championship game. Liam did that in eight innings, the most a single pitcher has thrown for Lackawanna since 2015. O'Leary was lights out when he needed to be this weekend, allowing a lead off double and then sitting down 16 batters in a row, while the Lackawanna offense scored ten runs through the first five innings. He limited Mercer to just one hit and one base runner through five innings. Despite Mercer starting to break through in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, Liam limited the damage and struck out seven batters across the final three innings, including striking out the side in the eighth and pitching around a pair of two-out hits that scored a run. He gave up two runs on seven hits in eight innings, posting a season-high 13 K's, just the second time this year he's gone over ten strikeouts. Liam's 13 punchouts are the most since
Nicholas Biasi struck out 15 last year for the Falcons. He also pitched an inning of relief in game one against Sussex on Thursday, giving up one hit and striking out another batter to help preserve the 8-4 win in the first round of the region playoffs. Liam has a 4.26 ERA in 69.2 innings, going 6-4 in 14 appearances. O'Leary has given up 42 runs, 33 earned, on 71 hits, striking out 100 batters and walking 31. The opposition is hitting .253 against him this season. Liam was a Region XIX DII 1
st Team selection for this year.
O'Leary is a sophomore student-athlete at Lackawanna College and was named Lackawanna College Athlete of the Week for his performance, as well.Â
