BRANCHBURG, NJ – After struggling offensively on a cold, blustery Wednesday, Lackawanna College softball's offense warmed up just like the weather on Thursday, as the Falcons scored 57 runs in two games to sweep past Raritan Valley CC, 28-2 and 29-1, in Region XIX DII action in New Jersey.

The Falcons (20-20, 6-4) had 46 combined hits, including 16 extra-base knocks, while drawing 20 walks and scoring runs in all ten innings across both games.
Emmalee Mowery (Mechanicsburg, PA) had eight hits, eight runs, and nine RBIs, while
Brianna Dinice (Terryville, CT) had seven RBIs,
Gracie Sokol (Belle Vernon, PA) put up five combined hits and scored six runs. Every Lackawanna College player that saw time, got a hit. Meanwhile, the pitching staff struck out the competition 23 times, allowing just three runs and giving up five combined hits in two games to Raritan Valley CC (6-17, 1-11).

In game one, Lackawanna scored 28 runs on 27 hits, hitting seven extra-base hits, including three doubles and three triples, while stealing six bases and drawing six walks. Lackawanna built a 16-0 lead through the first three innings, and scored six runs in each of the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings. Mowery was 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs, while Sokol was 3-for-5 with four runs and two RBIs.
Kizbelth Ortiz (New Britain, CT) went 3-for-3 with six RBIs, hitting both a double and a triple, while
Tori May (New Castle, PA) hit a double and a home run, her first of the year, while driving in two runs.
Paige Pieper (went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs, while
Kaislyn Currie (Gibbons, AB) was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs. Pitcher
Mia Scalese (Moscow, PA) got the win, striking out eight batters and giving up two runs on three hits in three innings.

Game two saw Lackawanna hit with even more efficiency, as the Falcons scored 29 runs on 19 hits, posting nine extra-base knocks, including three home runs. The Falcons drew 14 walks and took advantage of seven wild pitches and two hit batters, while Raritan mustered only two hits and had four errors. The Falcons scored six or more runs in each of the first four innings of the five-inning contest. Mowery was 4-for-5 with five runs and six RBIs, hitting an inside-the-park home run. Dinice went 3-for-3 with six RBIs and four runs, hitting a grand slam in the fourth inning, her first homer of the season. Scalese went 3-for-3 with two runs, while Sokol was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and
Jillian Heimberger (Unionville, PA) went 2-for-2 with three runs. Pitcher
Mekenzie Dineen (Wilmington, DE) struck out a season-best eleven batters, giving up just one run on two hits in five innings.

Lackawanna College softball will try to keep the momentum rolling with their next event, a doubleheader on Friday, April 18
th, as the Falcons travel to take on SUNY Onondaga CC in Syracuse, NY for a non-region match-up. First pitch is set for a 2:00pm ET start. The Falcons are back home after that, playing a home doubleheader with Delaware Tech CC on Saturday, April 19
th, with first pitch at 12:00pm ET at Scranton HS softball field.
