SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College baseball has five games in its next three days this weekend, as the Falcons get back to Region XIX DII action on Friday and Saturday, before hosting a non-region doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

Things get under way on Friday, March 28
th, as the Falcons host Raritan Valley CC in the first game of a three-game series. First pitch of the single nine-inning contest is set for 3:00pm ET at the Scranton HS baseball field. The rest of the series will resume on Saturday, March 29

About Lackawanna College
The Falcons (11-10, 3-0) come into the weekend as winners of four in a row. They swept past Delaware Tech this past weekend, then took down Delaware County CC, 7-4, in non-region action on Wednesday afternoon. Brooks Henderson IV (Feasterville, PA) is second on the team with 29 hits and a .392 batting average in his 20 appearances. Henderson has a 1.142 OPS with eight doubles, tied with Brown for third on the team, and 23 RBIs, second on the squad. He's also got four home runs, tied for second this year. He's got a .453 OBP on the year. Brooks has scored 21 runs, tied for first on the team, and has drawn nine walks on the year. th. Henderson had a ten-game hitting streak that was snapped with a 0-for-3 performance in game two against Allegany. He was 2-for-6 with a homer and a double, along with two runs scored and an RBI, in the 11-9 win against RCSJ Cumberland. He was a combined 3-for-11 with three runs, seven RBIs, and two homers in three games against DTCC. Brooks was 2-for-5 with two runs and two doubles in the win against Delco on Wednesday. Defensively, Henderson has 26 putouts, 49 assists, and five errors on the year from his shortstop position.

Louis Kegerreis (Murrysville, PA) is a .338 hitter this season through 18 appearances, collecting 23 total hits. Kegerreis has 21 runs scored this season, tied with Henderson for first on the Falcons, and he has a team-high 12 doubles and 16 RBIs. Kegerreis has a 1.052 OPS this year, with a .405 OBP. He has drawn six walks on the season. Kegerreis has six multi-hit games this season, and he currently has an eight-game hitting streak. Kegerreis was 3-for-5 against Cumberland on March 12

Nick Matson (Nanticoke, PA) is a .333 hitter this season through 20 games, collecting 22 hits and driving in 15 runs. Matson has scored 12 runs and has put up seven doubles on the year. He has drawn six walks and has stolen five bases, but he leads the Falcons with 17 strikeouts this season. Matson has eight multi-hit games this season, and he was 3-for-6 in the opener against Bryant & Stratton, driving in six runs and posting two doubles. Matson was 1-for-6 in three games against Del Tech, scoring a run and driving in another. He was 1-for-2 with an RBI in the win against Delco. Matson has 30 putouts on the season.

John Hughes (Hamilton, NJ) is a .404 hitter with 21 hits in 17 games this year. Hughes has a 1.370 OPS, with 19 runs scored and 17 RBIs. He has ten doubles, a triple, and three home runs this season. Hughes has drawn 14 walks, first on the squad, and he has been hit by six pitches. Hughes has a .562 OBP this year, second behind Brown, and he's slugging at .808. Hughes has six multi-hit games this season, and he was 3-for-5 with three doubles and three RBIs in the win against Cumberland on March 12

Tyler Lepage (Macungie, PA) is a .463 hitter with a 1.385 OPS through 14 appearances this season. Lepage has five homers, tied with Brown for first on the team, and has 12 RBIs. His .854 slugging percentage is second on the squad. He has 19 total hits, and 14 runs scored on the year. Lepage has drawn five walks and been hit by a pair of pitches. Lepage has seven multi-hit games this season. He was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, two homers, and three RBI in a 15-7 loss to Patrick & Henry on February 23
rd. He went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, four RBI, and two homers in a win against Bryant & Stratton back on February 9
th. Lepage missed four games, but returned to the lineup two weeks ago against RCSJ Cumberland. He played in all three games against Del Tech over the weekend, going a combined 5-for-10 with three runs and an RBI. He did not play against Delco on Wednesday. Jake Kelleher (Exeter, PA) is a .333 hitter through 18 games this season, compiling a 1.042 OPS on the year. Kelleher has scored 18 runs and collected 18 total hits, posting six doubles, three home runs, and 12 RBIs. Kelleher has drawn nine walks, tied with Henderson for third on the team, and he has two stolen bases. Kelleher has four multi-hit games this season, including going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a double, and two RBIs in the game one win against Allegany on March 15
th. He was a combined 5-for-13 with five runs, four RBIs, two doubles, and two home runs against Del Tech in three games last weekend. Kelleher was 0-for-1 in a pinch-hit situation against Delco on Wednesday. Kelleher has caught two runners stealing this season as a catcher and has seven assists behind the plate this season.

Kenny Hirschfeld (New Hyde Park, NY) is a .347 hitter this season in his 17 appearances, collecting 17 total hits and driving in eleven runs. Hirschfeld has four doubles and a homer, and he has scored 13 runs. Hirschfeld had two hits in each of his first two games and has five multi-hit games on the season. Hirschfeld came into the game against Gloucester as a pinch runner and finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, and an RBI. He played in one game against Delaware Tech in the doubleheader last Saturday, scoring a run, driving in three more, and going 2-for-4 on the day. Kenny was 0-for-2 against Delco on Wednesday.

Liam O'Leary (Souderton, PA) leads the team with 32.1 innings pitched, making six appearances, five of which have been starts. O'Leary has a 3-2 record with a 5.57 ERA. He has given up 25 runs, 20 earned, on 35 hits, while striking out a team-high 41 batters and walking 15. The opposition is hitting .265 against him this year, and he has hit a team-high eight batters. O'Leary's best outing happened against Monroe on March 8
th, where he went six innings, striking out a season-best nine batters, and allowed three runs, all earned, on five hits. O'Leary has recorded at least four strikeouts in all six of his appearances this season. He went seven innings in his last outing, picking up the 11-3 win against Delaware Tech. He gave up three runs on five hits while matching his season-best with nine strikeouts in the victory.

Sophomore pitcher
Ryan Novakowski (Forty Fort, PA) is second on the team in innings pitched, throwing 30.1 innings on the year. Novakowski is 2-2 with a 6.82 ERA in his six appearances, all starts. Novakowski has given up 25 runs, 23 earned, on 36 hits, with 35 strikeouts and eleven walks. Batters are hitting .293 against Novakowski this year. His best outing came against Allegany on March 15
th in game one of the doubleheader, striking out nine in a complete game shutout in seven innings. He scattered four hits and walked three in the 14-0 win. He pitched seven innings in a win against Delaware Tech last Friday, striking out a season-best eleven, while giving up six runs, four earned.

Trey Sajeski (Holland, PA) is third on the team, pitching 20 innings in six appearances this season. He's 2-1 with a 7.20 ERA. Sajeski has given up 19 runs, 16 earned, on 24 hits, striking out 21 and walking eleven batters. The opposition is hitting .276 against him this season. Sajeski threw his best game on March 9
th against Onondaga, striking out a season-high seven in a season-long six innings. He gave up just one run on five hits for the win in the 11-1 victory for Lackawanna. In his last outing, Sajeski gave up four runs on four hits in four innings, striking out three for the win against Delaware Tech.

The head coach for the Falcons is
Mike McCarry, now in his seventh season with Lackawanna College. McCarry has had loads of success in his time with the Falcons, making the NJCAA Division II World Series in three of his previous six seasons. In 2019, his first year, the Falcons went 32-17, won the Region XIX championship, and then the Northeast District championship on their way to the national showcase. The Falcons duplicated that result in 2021, going 30-16, winning another region and district title, and then appearing in Enid, Oklahoma for the NJCAA DII World Series. McCarry's 2023 team went 40-17, tied for second all-time in program history in wins, and the Falcons won region and district gold, while also winning two games at the NJCAA DII World Series. McCarry is a southeastern Pennsylvania native, and he has ties to Northeast PA dating back to his time playing at Keystone College in 2003. McCarry started his collegiate coaching career at LaSalle University, where he served as the head assistant. He moved on the Stephen F. Austin as a pitching coach, before joining the Lackawanna staff. He is 177-110 in his career at Lackawanna.

About Raritan Valley CC
The Lions (6-8-1, 2-1) enter the weekend having split with SUNY Orange on Sunday, tied with Westchester on Tuesday, then lost to Union on Wednesday. In a game called because of darkness, the Lions built a 10-4 lead after three innings against the Vikings from Westchester and led 13-8 leading into the seventh inning of the nine-inning contest, but Westchester mounted a five-run seventh to tie the game before it was halted. Against Union the next day, Raritan led 3-1 after one and had a 6-5 lead heading into the seventh inning, but the Owls scored a pair to recapture the lead, then hung on for the win. Raritan committed six errors on the day.

Raritan hits .295 as a team this season, and the Lions have a collective .796 OPS. Raritan is averaging 6.8 runs per game this season, compiling 30 extra-base hits, which includes 25 doubles and three home runs. Sophomore Jake Knapp is a .436 hitter with 17 total hits in 13 games this season. He leads the Lions with a 1.152 OPS, leading the team in OBP (.511) and slugging (.641). Knapp has eleven RBIs, second on the team, and he leads Raritan with two home runs this season. Knapp also leads the team with seven stolen bases and is third on the team with 12 runs this year. Knapp has six multi-hit games, all in his last eight contests. He was a combined 5-for-9 against Sussex last weekend, scoring three runs, driving in four more, and hitting both a double and a home run against the Skylanders in three games. Knapp was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a double in the loss to Union on Wednesday. Knapp has 17 putouts this season for the Lions.

Sophomore Anthony Saniscalchi has 16 total hits and is a .390 hitter this season through 14 games. Saniscalchi has scored eight runs and driven in a team-best 12 RBIs. He is tied for the team lead with five doubles, and he has a .981 OPS this season, boosted by his .469 OBP. Saniscalchi has drawn six walks this season, but has struck out ten times this season. He has six multi-hit games this season, going 3-for-5 with a run scored, three RBIs, and a double in the tie with Westchester on Tuesday. Saniscalchi was a combined 5-for-9 with three runs, three doubles, and five RBIs in three games against Sussex last weekend. He was 0-for-4 with an RBI against Union on Wednesday. Saniscalchi has 19 putouts and 30 assists on the year.

He was a combined 2-for-7 with a run scored and two RBIs in three games against Sussex last weekend. He had a 2-for-5 showing with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored against Union back on March 19
th. He had a combined five hits against Westchester and Union on Tuesday and Thursday, posting four RBIs and two runs in the pair of contests. He has 74 putouts and eight assists this season in the field.

Sophomore catcher Tyler Giordano has eleven total hits in 14 games, posting a .289 batting average on the year. Giordano leads the Lions with 15 runs this season, and he is tied with Saniscalchi with five doubles this year. Giordano has eight RBIs and a team-high ten walks. He has a .884 OPS, boosted by a .463 OBP, and he has five stolen bases this season. Giordano has also bee hit by a team-high four pitches this season. Giordano has three multi-hit games this season. He was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI back on March 19
th against Union. Giordano went a combined 4-for-8 with four runs and a double in three games against Sussex last weekend. He was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a double against Union this past Wednesday. Giordano has 21 assists as a catcher this season.

Sophomore pitcher Nick Bentz is the Lion with the most appearances and innings pitched, appearing in six games and pitching 15 innings, going 0-1 with a 4.20 ERA. Bentz has given up eleven runs, seven earned, on 19 hits. He has struck out ten batters and walked three. He struck out a season-high three batters in 2.2 innings of work, giving up three runs on three hits in the 13-3 loss to SUNY Orange back on March 9
th. His longest outing was his first, going four innings against Rockland in a 16-3 loss. Bentz gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits. He pitched 2.2 innings of relief against Union on Wednesday, only giving up a hit.

Sophomore pitcher Adam Gross has made four appearances this season and pitched 14.2 innings so far this season. He is 1-2 with a 12.89 ERA, giving up 23 runs, 21 earned, on 15 hits this season. He has struck out nine and walked a team-high 17 batters. His lone win came when he pitched six innings, giving up five runs on seven hits in a 14-7 win against Ocean County CC in March 18
th. Gross got the loss in his last outing, giving up seven runs on one hit, walking seven in 2.1 innings of a 10-7 loss to Orange this past Sunday.

The head coach for the Lions is Dan Mondelli, now in his third season in charge of the Lions. Mondelli was the Associate Head Coach at Morris before coming to Raritan, and he has over three decades of coaching experience. Mondelli won only three games in his first season, then improved by 13 wins in year two last season, making the Region XIX DII play-in series. He is 25-55-1 in his time at Raritan Valley.

About SUNY Rockland CC
The Hawks (12-10-1) come into the weekend with a Friday afternoon contest against Dominican University JV, before taking on the Falcons on Sunday. Rockland had a five-game winning streak at one point, but have gone 2-3 since last Thursday. Rockland split a doubleheader with PSU Scranton last weekend, then lost to Sussex on Tuesday, before snagging a win against Brookdale this past Thursday. Against the Jersey Blues, the Hawks trailed 3-2 heading into the seventh, then exploded for seven runs to completely flip the contest. They did that with just seven hits and only one extra-base knock, a double.

This season, the Hawks are averaging .284 at the plate with a collective OPS of .797. The Hawks have scored 171 runs, averaging 7.4 runs per contest. Sophomore Ryan Murphy has made six appearances and pitched 22.1 innings this season, going 2-2 with a save and a 7.25 ERA this season. The Match-Ups
The Falcons are 9-1 against Raritan since 2019, but Raritan won the last match-up, taking a 15-12 game against the Falcons last year in Flemington, NJ on April 8
th. That win was the first time in 22 years that Raritan had beaten Lackawanna College in baseball. The Lions scored six runs in the eighth inning to overcome a late deficit. The Falcons have scored ten or more runs against Raritan in each of their last ten games.
