VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The hometown Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton drew a bases-loaded plunk in the bottom of the seventh to walk off Lackawanna College baseball in game two of their doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, earning a split between the pair of squads in Virginia.
Â
The Falcons (2-1) had a 13-6 victory in game one and were poised to take game two after going ahead 5-4 on a passed ball in the top of the seventh. B&S (3-4) quickly put two on with nobody out to start the bottom frame. A pitching change got the Falcons a strikeout, but a double scored the tying run, and then a bases loaded hit-batter forced in the winning run for the Bobcats, who won 6-5 in game two.
Â
Lackawanna had initially fallen behind 2-0 through two innings, but came back in the top of the third with an RBI double from
Kenny Hirschfeld (New Hyde Park, NY) and a run-scoring single from
Deacon Brown (Williamsport, PA) that made it 2-2 after 2.5 innings.
Â
Lackawanna took the lead in the fifth inning on a bases-loaded fielder's choice, but Bryant & Stratton added two runs in the bottom frame to jump in front at 4-3. The Falcons tied the game on a Hirschfeld single in the sixth and then took the lead in the seventh on a passed ball with the bases loaded, setting up the thrilling bottom of the seventh.
Â
Hirschfeld finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Brown was a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Pitcher
Cole Long (Burnettsville, IN) was saddled with the loss, walking two batters to start the seventh inning and leaving without recording an out, with both runs eventually scoring.
Â
In game one, Lackawanna scored at least a run in all seven innings and pounded out 16 hits.
Tyler Lepage (Macungie, PA) hit a two-run homerun to start the scoring in the first inning, then added another two-run jack in the top of the second inning, as the Falcons raced to a 5-2 lead. B&S cut the deficit to 5-4 after two innings, but the Falcons lengthened the lead back out on a two-run double from
Louis Kegerreis (Murrysville, PA) in the third at 7-4. They added another run on a sac fly in the fourth, then got a solo shot from Kegerreis in the fifth inning, which kept the offense rolling right through to the eventual 13-6 victory.
Â
Kegerreis was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Lepage went 2-for-5 with four RBI and his two homeruns.
John Hughes (Hamilton, NJ) was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI, and
Brooks Henderson IV (Feasterville, PA) went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Hayden Klyver (Wilton, CT) pitched two innings of relief, giving up one run on four hits, for the win.
Â
The Falcons will be off until Saturday, February 15
th, when they travel to Supply, NC for a doubleheader with nationally ranked Brunswick CC and USC Sumter. First pitch will be at 11:00am ET on Saturday against the top-ranked Dolphins from Brunswick.
