ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Lackawanna College women's wrestling fought hard for a sixth-place finish at the Muhlenberg Novice Women's Tournament on Sunday afternoon, a positive result for the young Falcons' squad inside the Deitrich Fieldhouse on Muhlenberg's campus.
 
The Falcons finished with 48 team points, three ahead of Arcadia University (45) and just eight behind the University of Bridgeport (56), thanks to first-place finisher, two wrestlers in second, and two third-place winners in the round-robin, pool-style tournament.
 
That first-place winner was Hailey Schumaker (Center Valley, PA), who went 3-0 on the day at 180 lbs., defeating two opponents via technical fall, each by 10-0 margins, then taking down her final opponent in 33 seconds by a fall.
 
Schumaker was joined by Michelle Pastuizaca (Nanticoke, PA) at 180 lbs., who went 2-1 on the day and earned a second-place finish in her pool.
 
Elsewhere, Skylar Benninger (Palmyra, PA) picked up a win against Yanilka Azcona from Rider at 117 lbs. that helped Skylar eventually secure a second-place finish on the day. Mary Henry (Gillett, PA) and Haylee Fessler (Lansford, PA) each earned third-place finishes at 124 lbs. and 145 lbs., respectively. Lauren Hill (Tamaqua, PA) finished fourth in her pool at 138 lbs., but did manage an impressive 15-4 tech. fall victory in her final match against Perla Gutierrez from Rider.
 
Lackawanna College will be back to dual action on Saturday, December 13^th, with an away event at SUNY Onondaga. First matches are set to start at 1:00pm ET in Syracuse, NY, with both the men's and women's teams competing.
