WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Lackawanna College women's wrestling had five student-athletes in action on Sunday at the Wilkes Open at Wilkes University, with varying degrees of success for the Falcons.
 
First-year grappler Michelle Pastuizaca (Nanticoke, PA) lost in the round of 16 at 180 lbs., but then fought back through the consolation bracket to finish 3-2 overall on the day. She won her first match, a fall at 2:36 of the first round over her opponent from Kean University, before dropping by fall at 0:29 to someone from Frostburg State. In the consolations, Pastuizaca defeated back-to-back opponents from Utica University via fall at 24 and 16 seconds, respectively, before dropping to her opponent from Eastern by fall in the first round.
 
Elsewhere, Haylee Fessler (Lansford, PA) dropped her first-round match via tech fall before winning by fall in the consolation bracket over her opponent from Kean. She then lost in the Consi of 8 #1 round via tech fall in the first round.
 
Falcon wrestlers Skylar Benninger (Palmerton, PA), Mary Henry (Athens, PA) and Hailey Schumaker (Center Valley, PA) all competed on Sunday, as well.
 
The Falcons will return to action on this coming Friday, November 21^st, when they take on Kean University in a dual, alongside the men. The wrestling is set to start at 7:00pm ET in Union, NJ.
