MBB: Second Half Niagara Surges Past Lackawanna In Season Opener

The Falcons Played #16 SUNY Niagara Tough Through The First Half, But The Thunder Wolves Ran Away With The Win In The Second Half

11/1/25

SANBORN, NY – Lackawanna College men's basketball played the #16 SUNY Niagara Thunder Wolves tight through the first half, but Niagara shot 65.7% in the second half, scoring 59 points in the process, and the Wolves ran away for the 100-68 win at home against the Falcons in the Niagara Tip-Off Classic on Saturday evening at SUNY Niagara.

The Falcons (0-1) shot 32.5% from the field overall, but made seven first-half three-pointers to keep themselves within striking distance against Niagara (1-0). The problem came in the second half, as the Falcons were just 1-for-12 from downtown, while the Wolves made 23 shots, including five threes, and forced 13 Lackawanna turnovers. For the game, Niagara put five players in double-figures, outrebounded Lackawanna by a 58-38 margin, scored 28 points on turnovers, and had 23 points on second-chances.

Lackawanna got as close as three points in the second half, thanks to a Matthew Nora (Houston, TX) tip-in, which made it 47-44 Niagara just two minutes in, but Lackawanna twice missed a chance to get closer, and Niagara scored on the other end to start a brief 8-0 spurt to go ahead eleven at 55-44 with 15:19 to play.

Lackawanna got it down to six points on a Xavier Spears (Brooklyn, NY) lay-up with 11:29 to play, but another 8-0 run by the Wolves pushed their lead out to 65-51, capped by a steal and a dunk with just over nine minutes to play. The lead never dipped below double-digits the rest of the way.

Noah Elias (Silver Spring, MD) led the way with eleven points, while Latrell Mark (Frederick, MD) had ten points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Noah McIntosh (Philadelphia, PA) added eight points off the bench, while Spears put up seven.

Lackawanna gets back to action for a second game at the Niagara Tip-Off Classic on Sunday, November 2nd, when the Falcons are set to take on Erie CC. Tip-off is set for 12:00pm ET in the SUNY Niagara gymnasium.
