FB: Mistakes, Turnovers Topple Lackawanna Against Monroe

Lackawanna College Threw Three Interceptions, Gave Up 17 Points Off Turnovers, And Fell On The Road To Monroe

11/1/25

MOUNT VERNON, NY – Lackawanna football had one of its worst offensive games in three years, as the Falcons were plagued by turnovers and ill-timed penalties in a 34-7 setback on the road at Monroe University on Saturday evening at Memorial Stadium at the Field.

The Falcons (4-4) outgained the Mustangs (4-3), 196-to-155, and held Monroe to just 25 yards rushing, but Lackawanna threw three interceptions, including an interception return for touchdown, and Monroe scored 17 points off turnovers from Lackawanna on the night.

Lackawanna scored on its second possession of the night, putting together a seven-play drive and capping that with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Tiberi (Smyrna, DE) to Kaeon Jenkins (Wayne, NJ) with 5:16 to go in the first quarter.

After each team traded punts, the Mustangs had the Falcons pinned deep at their own ten-yard line two minutes into the second quarter. On a third down play, Tiberi looked to swing a pass out into the flat, but the pass was intercepted and returned into the end zone to tie the game.

Monroe took the lead later in the half when a sack fumble gave the Mustangs the ball at Lackawanna's 13-yard line with 5:10 to play in the half. The Mustangs took advantage of a pass interference penalty to get inside the five and cashed in on a two-yard run to take the lead at 14-7 at 4:44 to go in the half.

Lackawanna turned the ball over on downs near midfield, then Monroe kicked a 33-yard field goal with 1:04 to play to go ahead 17-7. Another pass interception, this time on a tipped pass, set up Monroe at the Lackawanna 13-yard line with 40 seconds to play, and another Monroe field goal from 25 yards away made it 20-7 going into the half.

The Mustangs opened the second half with a six-play, 75-yard drive, capping it with a 25-yard touchdown pass in the left corner of the end zone, making it 27-7, Monroe.

Another interception stopped a promising Falcon drive, as Tiberi guided the Falcons down the field to the Monroe seven-yard line in two plays, but a holding penalty backed the Falcons up, and the interception happened just in the end zone, snuffing out a perfect scoring chance.

Lackawanna mounted another drive, this time getting to the Monroe 24, but a loss, followed by a penalty, backed the Falcons up to a 2nd-and-17 from the Monroe 31. The Falcons threw three-straight incomplete passes and turned it back over on downs.

Monroe started the fourth quarter on the Lackawanna three-yard line, but a sack by Micah Brown (Stafford, VA) pushed the Mustangs back to the Lackawanna 11-yard line, and another sack, this time from Michael Johnson (Windsor, Ontario), pushed Monroe all the way back to the 22. The Mustangs missed the 38-yard field goal, and Lackawanna had one last potential chance to get themselves back into the game, but the Falcons gambled on fourth down from their own 25 and missed, and Monroe scored six plays later to make it 34-7 with 7:32 remaining.

The Falcons had one more drive, getting from their own 28-yard line to the Monroe 12, but the Falcons came up short one more time, turning it over on downs and giving the ball back to the Mustangs.

Tiberi was 12-for-28 for 196 yards and a touchdown, along with three interceptions. Devin Rollins (Baltimore, MD) led the running backs with 42 yards rushing, while Colin Burdian (East Stroudsburg, PA) had three catches for 80 yards. Jenkins had three grabs for 50 yards and a touchdown. Malachi Brown (Winslow Twp., NJ) had a breakout performance, posting five total tackles, four for loss, and one sack. Johnson added four total tackles and 1.5 tackles-for-loss.

Lackawanna College will look to bounce back with its Homecoming 2025 game on Saturday, November 8th, as the Falcons host #5 Georgia Military College. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm ET at PenFed Field at Memorial Stadium in Scranton.
