MBB: Lackawanna To Face Challenge From Cecil In Non-Region Action

The Falcons And The Seahawks Will Meet For The Fourth Straight Season

SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College men's basketball will look to go a perfect 4-for-4 in its home stand on Tuesday, January 21st, as the Falcons get set to host Cecil College in non-region action.
 
The game is set for a 7:00pm ET tip-off inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium. The game is open to the public, with tickets being sold at the door for adults ($5) and students ($3). Anyone with a valid Lackawanna College ID will be granted free admission. There will be a pay-per-view video livestream available via the Lackawanna College Athletics network at lackawannafalcons.com/LIVE.
 
Lackawanna has not played Cecil yet this season. The Falcons last played the Seahawks in November 2023, falling 77-58 on the road in North East, MD. That was a game the Falcons trailed by eight at the break, then closed to within three early in the second half, before falling behind by double-digits.
 
About Lackawanna College
The Falcons (11-9) have won three straight games, all at home, and their last four home games overall, dating back to December. In its latest game, Lackawanna got off to a fast start to take an early big lead against Delaware Tech, then cruised the rest of the way to an 85-79 win at home. Laybourn-Boddie leads the team with 45 three-point makes, tied for third-most in Region XIX, has dished out 71 assists (3.7 per game), and leads the Falcons with 47 steals this season. Laybourn-Boddie has scored double-digits 16 times this season, putting up a season-high 28 points in the win against SUNY Onondaga on November 10th, making eleven shots, four of which were three-pointers, while putting up five steals, four assists, and four rebounds. Laybourn-Boddie had six assists to go with his 26 points, six rebounds, and three steals in the overtime win against Jamestown. Laybourn-Boddie scored 23 points and set season-highs in three-point makes (5) and rebounds (8), along with five assists in the win against Sussex  back on December 12th. Evan set his season-high with eleven assists and 17 points in the win against Rockland on January 11th, going 11-for-16 from the free throw line. Laybourn-Boddie had 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists in the win against Delaware Tech on Saturday.
 
Sophomore guard Shawnn Smith (Philadelphia, PA) is second on the team, averaging 15.4 points per game this season. Smith is shooting 44.9% from the floor and is 22-for-23 from the free throw line. He averages six rebounds per game and has 24 assists. He has scored 20 points or more in three games this season and has scored double-figures in nine of the ten games he's played. Smith had 23 points and seven rebounds, while playing all 40 minutes, in a loss to Montgomery County CC on November 6th. He set a season-high with nine rebounds in the loss to PSU Scranton on November 4th. Smith matched that season-high with nine rebounds against Essex, while also scoring 18 points and dishing out a pair of assists in the win for Lackawanna. Smith matched his season-best with nine rebounds and 15 points, along with a season-high five assists in the loss at Delaware Tech. Smith has not played the last nine games for Lackawanna College, with his last appearance coming against DTCC.
 
Sophomore guard Nick Marabito (Upper Darby, PA) is averaging 14.1 points per game this season, third on the team. Marabito is shooting 35.9% from the floor, and has made 34 threes, second on the team. Marabito is a 75.5% free throw shooter and averages 3.8 rebounds per game this year. Marabito has scored in double-figures 12 times this year, with his season-high coming against Mercer County CC on December 10th, scoring 23 points in the win against the Vikings. Marabito made seven shots from the floor and was 7-for-9 from the free throw line, while also pulling down five rebounds and putting up four steals. Marabito set a season-high for rebounds (12) and had 17 points in the win against Essex on January 14th, going 6-for-20 from the floor. Marabito had 13 points, five rebounds, and a season-best eight assists in the win against Sussex in December. Marabito had a nice game against Westchester on January 9th, leading the Falcons with 20 points on 7-for-15 shooting, hitting four three-pointers, and dishing out four assists. Marabito scored 18 points, 16 in the first half, while pulling down four rebounds and making four three-point shots in the win against Delaware Tech.
 
Sophomore forward Jireej Cole (Bronx, NY) has three double-doubles in his first four games this season, all coming in the spring semester. Cole is averaging 11.8 points per game and ten rebounds per game through his four appearances. He's shooting 63.3% from the floor and hitting 69.2% from the free throw line. Cole has scored in double-figures in three games this year, scoring his season-best 16 points in the loss to SUNY Westchester on January 9th. He set his season-high with eleven rebounds in that game, and Cole matched that output with eleven rebounds and 13 points in the win against Essex on January 14th. Against Del Tech on Saturday, he had eleven points and ten rebounds in the victory.
 
First-year guard Noah Elias (Silver Spring, MD) is averaging 9.3 points per game through his first four games of action in the spring semester. Elias is hitting 51.9% from the floor and has knocked down eight three-pointers at a 44.4% clip from downtown. Elias is averaging four rebounds per game and has ten assists through his four games. Elias scored his season-best 17 points in his debut against SUNY Westchester on January 9th, hitting four three-pointers in the loss. Elias had four points, six rebounds, and five assists in the win against SUNY Rockland on January 11th. Elias had eight points and three rebounds in 20 minutes in the win against Delaware Tech on Saturday.
 
First-year stretch forward Noah McIntosh (Philadelphia, PA) is averaging 8.8 points per contest this year. McIntosh is shooting 41.4% from the floor and averages four rebounds per contest this season. He also has 15 assists, 15 steals, and a team-high 16 blocks. Noah has scored double-figures in seven games this season, including three straight games just before the new year. He has scored his season-high 20 points twice this year, the first coming against Jefferson CC on November 9th, hitting nine shots and pulling down seven rebounds. The second came in the win against Sussex on December 12th, scoring 20 points on 9-for-12 shooting. McIntosh set his season-high for rebounds twice this season, pulling down seven boards in the opener against Thaddeus Stevens on November 2nd, and then grabbing seven boards against Jefferson. McIntosh had nine points and five rebounds in the win against Rockland on January 11th. McIntosh scored three points and had a pair of rebounds in 19 minutes against Del Tech on Saturday.
 
Sophomore guard Jasier Carter (North Brunswick, NJ) is averaging seven points per game this season, shooting 50% from the floor. Carter averages 4.5 rebounds per game and has 27 assists and 15 steals this season. Carter scored a season-high 20 points twice this season, first doing it against Raritan, along with a season-best eight rebounds on December 3rd. He matched that season-high against Morris back in December, scoring 20 points and grabbing six rebounds in the loss. He has scored double-figures four times this season, putting up 14 points against SUNY Ulster on November 12th, then scoring ten points and matching his season-high rebounds with eight boards against Mercer. Carter set a season-high with four assists, four rebounds, and six points in the win against Essex on January 14th. Carter scored six points and had three rebounds in the win against Delaware Tech this past Saturday.
 
First-year forward Tyrick Moy (Williamsport, PA) is averaging 6.8 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game this season, second on the team in rebounding. Moy also has 18 assists and is shooting 45.2% from the floor. Moy has scored double-figures four times this season, putting up a season-high 17 points and eight rebounds in the win against Jamestown. Moy scored all eight points in overtime for the Falcons. Moy's season-high in rebounding came against Ulster, where he pulled down 12 boards and scored nine points on November 12th. Moy had four points and four rebounds in the win against Del Tech on Saturday.
 
Head coach Kirk Fallon is in his second season as the head coach, and his fifth overall with Lackawanna College men's basketball. Fallon came to the Falcons after a successful two seasons coaching girls basketball at Susquehanna Community HS. Fallon led the Lady Sabers to back-to-back PIAA District 2 championships and a 40-17 record in his two years. Before that, he was also a college basketball assistant at Keystone College for four seasons, where he was involved a lot of the logistics for the program. Kirk has a Bachelor's degree from Marywood, where he played three seasons for the Pacers. He's a northeast PA native, graduating from Susquehanna as a 1,000-point scorer. Fallon is 19-27 in his career at Lackawanna as head coach.
 
About Cecil College
The Seahawks (12-6) spent the first month ranked inside the top 25 in NJCAA Division II, but they were dropped from the rankings after a pair of losses in December. They have started the spring semester with a 2-2 record, dropping their first two games to Howard CC and Baltimore City CC before winning their last two games against Chesapeake College and Hagerstown CC. The win against Hagerstown was an impressive piece of work for the Seahawks, as they recovered from a nine-point deficit at halftime and a 14-point second half deficit to eventually force overtime, where the Seahawks shot 50% and scored 13 points to pull away. Cecil won despite shooting just 36% from the floor and hitting only 22-for-40 from the free throw line. The Seahawks forced 20 turnovers and outrebounded Hagerstown by a 53-45 margin.
 
Cecil is averaging 82.9 points per game this year, while allowing 78.3 points per contest on the season. The Seahawks are shooting 45.7% from the floor this year, and are hitting around 31.6% from the three-point arc. Cecil's opponents are hitting 42.9% from the field and 30.5% from beyond the arc. Cecil has a -4.7 rebounding margin on the year, averaging 35.9 rebounds per game. The Seahawks force 20.4 turnovers per game, averaging 10.3 steals per contest. They also average 4.4 blocks per game.
 
Sophomore guard Jaiden Guy leads the Seahawks at 19.1 points per game this season, shooting 52.9% from the floor and hitting around 30% of his shots from downtown. Guy averages seven rebounds per game, which is second on the team, and is tied for the team lead at 3.8 assists per game. Guy also leads the team at 1.9 steals per game this year. Guy has scored in double-digit points in 17 of 18 games this season, going for 20 or more points in seven games this season. Guy's season-high came in his first game, scoring 33 points in the win against Bryant & Stratton (VA) on November 2nd, making eleven shots and hitting eleven free throws, while also pulling down ten rebounds. Guy has three double-doubles on the year, posting a season-high 14 rebounds twice this season. He had 16 points and 14 rebounds in the win against Johnston CC back on November 3rd, where he also had a season-high seven steals, then he posted 15 points and 14 rebounds in the latest win against Hagerstown this past weekend. His season-best eight assists came in a win against County College of Morris on November 16th.
 
Sophomore forward Darrien Berrios Rivera is averaging 10.2 points per game, second on the team, while shooting 53.7% from the floor and hitting 39.7% from downtown. Rivera is averaging 3.1 rebounds per game for the Seahawks this year. He has seven games with double-figures in points this season, posting a season-high 22 points in the win against Raritan Valley CC back on November 17th. He was 8-for-12 from the floor, hit three three-point shots, and pulled down three rebounds in the win. He scored five points and had a season-high eight rebounds in the win against Johnston CC on November 3rd. Rivera had just four points and two rebounds in the win against Hagerstown over the weekend.
 
Sophomore guard Jermaine Goodwyn is third on the team, averaging 9.8 points per game on the year. Goodwyn is shooting 45.5% from the floor and hitting 32.4% from the three-point line. Goodwyn is averaging three rebounds per game, while averaging just over an assist and a steal per game. Goodwyn has nine games in double-figures scoring this season, including his last four games for the Seahawks. Goodwyn's season-high came earlier this month in the loss to Baltimore City CC on January 11th, scoring 25 points on 8-for-14 shooting and making eight free throws. Goodwyn scored 12 points and set his season-best with eight rebounds in the victory over Hagerstown CC this past weekend. In his last four games, Goodwyn is averaging 17.8 points per game on 57.4% shooting.
 
Sophomore guard Shaun Chandler is averaging 8.7 points per game this year, shooting 41.4% from the floor and a team-best 77.8% from the free throw line. Chandler is tied with Guy for first on the team with 3.8 assists per game, and he averages 1.4 steals per game. Chandler has scored double-figures in eight games this season, posting a season-best 16 points in the victory over the Pennsylvania Highlands CC on December 14th, making seven shots from the floor and dishing out six assists. Chandler set his season-high in assists with nine helpers, plus ten points in the win against Prince George's CC on December 6th. He had 15 points and a season-high eight rebounds in the win against Raritan Valley CC on November 17th. He had nine points and three rebounds in the win against Hagerstown on the weekend.
 
The head coach is Ed Durham, now in his ninth year as head coach for the Seahawks. Durham has three Region XX titles, along with three NJCAA national tournament appearances, including a third-place finish in the 2018-2019 season. Durham is also the Director of Athletics at Cecil, and was the head softball coach for five seasons, previously, where he won 124 games for the Seahawks. As a softball coach, he made a pair of national tournament appearances and won two Region XX championships. As the basketball coach, Durham is 166-105 in his career.
 
The Match-Ups
Cecil has won two of the three match-ups against Lackawanna that the schools have played since the 2021-2022 season. Lackawanna won the last meeting in Scranton two years ago, 85-78, back on January 7th, 2023.

Tip-off is set for a 7:00pm ET start on Rickard Court inside the Schmid gymnasium. The game is the second of a doubleheader, with the women's teams scheduled to face off first at 5:00pm ET.
