CUMBERLAND, Md. – Lackawanna College baseball had a frustrating afternoon, blowing a two-run lead late in game one, and stranding 16 total batters in two games in a doubleheader loss to Allegany College of Maryland on Monday afternoon in Maryland. The Trojans rallied to win game one, 4-3, and kept the Falcons quiet in game two, winning 5-1.
The Falcons (0-4) wasted a two-homerun effort from
Louis Kegerreis (Redshirt First Year; Murrysville, PA) in game one on the road, as Allegany rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, courtesy of a two-run homer and a go-ahead solo shot to give the Trojans (4-0) the lead in the bottom of the sixth.
Lackawanna had its chances, drawing eight walks as a team, but the Falcons were wasteful, stranding seven runners for the game. The tying run was on second with two away in the top of the seventh, but a strikeout ended the potential threat for the Falcons.
Kegerreis broke open a scoreless game in the third with a one-out solo homerun to give Lackawanna a lead. That lead was quickly doubled when
Michael Miller (Sophomore; Lafayette Hill, PA) ripped an RBI-double two batters later to make it 2-0, Falcons. A fielder's choice in the bottom of the third got Allegany on the board, but another solo shot from Kegerreis made it 3-1 in the fifth. A two-run homer in the bottom frame tied it, before the solo homer in the top of the sixth gave Allegany the lead for good.
In game two, Lackawanna took an early lead courtesy of a Miller sacrifice fly in the top of the first, but a solo homer from Allegany in the bottom frame tied it, followed by a two-run double that made it 3-1, Trojans. The Falcons drew four walks and were gifted three errors from Allegany on the day, but they stranded nine baserunners, and couldn't muster any more offense the rest of the way, as Allegany slowly pulled away, adding some insurance runs late.
Kegerreis and Miller each had two hits in game one, while
Nick Matson (Redshirt First Year; Nanticoke, PA) had three hits and a run scored in game two. Falcons pitchers walked a combined ten batters across two games, and gave up three total homeruns.
Lackawanna will look to get its first win of 2024 when the Falcons travel back down to the Old Line State for a twin bill with Montgomery College of Maryland on Saturday, February 24
th. First pitch of game one is set for 11:00am ET in Rockville.
