SANBORN, NY – Lackawanna men's wrestling had a trio of grapplers competing at the Thunderwolves Open at SUNY Niagara on Saturday afternoon in western New York.

The Falcons had two wrestlers competing at 149 lbs. in
Matt Gashi-Brito (Fairfax, VA) and
John Almonte (Scranton, PA). Gashi-Brito took on Jamestown CC's Nicholas Ewan in his first-round match. Ewan and Gashi-Brito nearly went the distance, but Ewan submitted Gashi-Brito with just under 15 seconds left in the third on a fall. He faced Cy Aune from Muskegon CC in his next bout, and that one also was lengthy, with Aune taking the win via fall right at the end of the second period. Almonte, meanwhile, faced Kyle Wilson from Henry Ford College in his first bout of the day, but fell via fall in 1:37. Almonte coincidentally then faced Aune from Muskegon in his next bout, and Aune got the win by fall in 0:55.

At 197 lbs.,
Adan Salazar (Scranton, PA) represented the Falcons, and he had a long day with four matches. He faced Aiden Poe, wrestling unattached from SUNY Niagara in the first bout of the day. Poe managed to pin Salazar for the fall at the 1:24 mark in the round one clash. In round two, Salazar faced Enver Bulatov from SUNY Onondaga. Bulatov got the win with a little over a minute to go in the first period, getting a fall at 1:52. In the third round, Daryk Bunn from Garrett College managed to pin Salzar at 1:41 in the first period for the fall. In round four, Salazar had his best showing, taking Andrew Baldwin from Muskegon CC into the second period, before dropping the bout with a fall at 3:16.

The Falcons are officially on winter break, and will return to action in the new year on Sunday, January 26
th, when they are set to travel to Jamestown CC for the Jamestown Open. Wrestling starts at 9:30am ET from Jamestown, NY.
