FB: Terrific Townsel Helps Lackawanna Handle Hocking

Gene Townsel Had A Hand In Two Defensive Scores, And Lackawanna College Got A Total Team Effort On The Road

Box Score 10/26/24

NELSONVILLE, Ohio – Lackawanna College football faced little resistance in its road contest Saturday, taking a 67-12 win over Hocking College in southeastern Ohio for the fourth-straight win for the Falcons this year.

The #10 Falcons (6-2) scored 42 points in the first half, and scored in a variety of ways throughout the afternoon, with the defense and special teams accounting for 14 points on their own, thanks to a blocked punt returned for a score, a two-point conversion returned for a score, and a fumble return for touchdown late in the game. Four different Falcons had rushing touchdowns, and quarterback Wyatt Hagan (Chantilly, VA) had three touchdown passes on the afternoon to knock off the winless Hawks (0-8).

Lackawanna turned it over on its first possession with an interception at the Hocking 30-yard line, but the Hawks were forced to punt back, and Maurice Edwards (Mundelein, IL) punctuated the opening drive with a six-yard score to make it 6-0, which would remain the margin at the end of the first quarter.

The first play of the second quarter saw Hagan find receiver Christian Harrison (Temple Hills, MD) for a touchdown, Harrison's first of the season, which made it 13-0 just a few seconds into the quarter. Hocking was forced to punt away after a Kylon Roberts (Columbia, MD) sack, and the Falcons capitalized when Gene Townsel (Richmond, VA) flew in and blocked the kick. Victor Holt (Olyphant, PA) scooped up the loose ball and returned it for the touchdown to make it 19-0 with just under 13 minutes to go in the first half.

A Hocking touchdown on the next drive made it 19-6, but Carrington Nickens-Yzer (Centreville, VA) returned the ensuing kickoff to the Hocking 30-yard line, and Galamama Mulbah (Levittown, PA) cashed in a few plays later on a 15-yard touchdown run to make it 26-6, Falcons. Hocking scored again, then went for two, but the ball was fumbled on their attempt, and Townsel scooped it up and ran it back for the rare defensive two-point conversion to make it 28-12, Falcons.

The teams traded turnovers, and it was Lackawanna that took advantage, using a pick at the Hocking 21-yard line by Andrew Marshall (Carroll, OH) to eventually set up a Hagan touchdown pass to Harrison, their second hook-up of the day, giving Lackawanna a 35-12 advantage with 3:35 to play until halftime.

Another pick, this time from Kamden Wyatt (Philadelphia, PA), set up the Falcons at midfield, and they'd eventually cash in on a Hagan touchdown strike to Michael Hodge (Richmond, VA), stretching Lackawanna's lead to 42-12 at the break.

Bryan Johnson (Woodbury, NJ) found Dashon Reeves (Dumfries, VA) for an eight-yard touchdown to start the third, making it 48-12, Falcons. Later in the quarter, Bernardo Henry (Maplewood, NJ) scored on a two-yard dive to stretch the Falcon advantage to 54-12 before the end of the third, then Joseph Bivins (Barnegat, NJ) got in on the action with an eleven-yard run that made it 60-12 early in the fourth. The last score came when defensive end Khalif Kemp (Philadelphia, PA) scooped up a fumble and rumbled 70 yards to the end zone, putting the Falcons up 67-12 with 2:53 to play.

The win pushes Lackawanna to a 6-2 mark overall on the season. The Falcons are back on the road next weekend on Saturday, November 2nd, when they travel to New York to take on the Monroe University Mustangs. Kickoff is set for 4:00pm ET at The Stadium at Memorial Field in Mount Vernon, NY.
