SCRANTON, Pa. – With five games in its next three days, all Region XIX DII contests, Lackawanna College baseball has an important weekend chock-full of action on the docket.

It starts on Friday, April 21
st, when the Falcons travel to Branchburg, NJ to take on the Raritan Valley CC Lions in the first game of a three-game series this weekend. It'll be a single, nine-inning affair starting at 3:30pm ET.

Then, on Saturday, April 22
nd, the Falcons are set to host Raritan for a doubleheader at Scranton HS baseball field in Scranton. First pitch of game one is set for a 12:00pm ET start. There will be a video livestream of the doubleheader available at lackawannafalcons.com/LIVE and the Region 19 Sports Network.

rd, the Falcons will host Sussex County CC in a doubleheader rescheduled from earlier this month. About The Falcons
Lackawanna College (23-13, 9-1) has gone 16-4 in its last 20 games, and has won five straight games. The Falcons were last in action on Thursday afternoon down at Montgomery County CC, where they defeated the Mustangs 21-7 in seven innings. Ty Federici (Lehman, PA) has made nine appearances and is 3-2 with a 7.94 ERA so far this season. In his 17 innings pitched, Federici has allowed 21 runs, 15 earned, on 27 hits, while striking out 15 and walking six. Batters have hit him hard this season, with a .333 batting average against him. Federici has had three good outings as of late, pitching one inning of relief last Sunday where he gave up one hit, getting the win against Lehigh Carbon last week, pitching four innings of scoreless relief and striking out a season-high seven, then pitching 0.2 innings of scoreless relief against Monroe CC to preserve the 20-17 win for the Falcons in game two last Friday. His most recent outing was the start against Montgomery County CC, where he gave up six runs, three earned, on six hits in four innings of work to get the win.

Lackawanna College is coached by
Mike McCarry, now in his fifth season at the helm for the Falcons. McCarry has taken the Falcons to the NJCAA DII World Series twice in the last four years, taking the Falcons to Region 19 crowns in 2019 and 2021, on their way to the World Series tournament in Enid, OK. McCarry, who played under Jamie Shevchik at nearby Keystone College in the early 2000's, has been coaching baseball since 2006, having spent time at Central Bucks West HS, then moved onto the collegiate ranks a few years later when he arrived at LaSalle University, where he was the Head Assistant – Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. While at LaSalle, McCarry helped the Explorers develop a relationship with NJCAA schools, bringing in four NJCAA All-Americans in his time. After LaSalle, McCarry moved on to be the pitching coach at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, TX. McCarry is 117-70 in his 4+ seasons with the Falcons, winning a pair of Region 19 championships and coaching three NJCAA All-Americans, as well as several All-Region selections in his time at Lackawanna.

The Lions (3-23, 1-14) enter Friday's game after an 11-8 loss at home against Montgomery County CC this past Wednesday afternoon. Raritan had previously ended what was a ten-game losing streak with an 8-6 win over Lehigh Carbon CC in game two of a doubleheader at Lehigh Carbon this past Sunday. Â

DeMarco had a season-best six strikeouts in what eventually became a 25-9 loss to Middlesex, though he avoided the decision on the day. Carl Ganz is second on the team, pitching 33 innings of work so far this season, going 2-3 in his eleven appearances, posting an 11.18 ERA. Ganz has surrendered 45 runs, 41 earned, on 44 hits, while striking out a team-best 28 batters, but also walking a team-worst 23. The head coach for Raritan Valley is Dan Mondelli, now in his first year at the helm for the Lions. Mondelli came to Raritan after a stint as the associate head coach at County College of Morris. He has over 30 years of coaching experience at both the high school and college levels. Mondelli replaces Joe Pavlow, who served as the head baseball coach last year while also doubling as the athletic director.

The Skylanders (22-4, 8-2) will come into Sunday's doubleheader fresh off the heels of their own three game Region XIX DII series, where they are set to play at Mercer County CC on Friday, and then host the Vikings for a doubleheader on Saturday in Newton, NJ. As the standings sit right now, Sussex is in second place, a full-game behind Lackawanna College in the Region XIX DII standings, with a tough road ahead against Mercer, Lackawanna, and three games at Delaware Tech remaining on the schedule.

Sussex is hitting .339 as a team from the plate this season, with a combined .906 OPS, combining a solid .458 OBP and a .448 slugging percentage, as a team. He had a season-high 12 strikeouts in an 11-0 win over North Central Missouri College, allowing just one hit in six innings. In his last start, back on April 4

Sota Inden is 3-2 in seven appearances, with a 3.62 ERA, pitching 27.1 innings so far this season. Inden has allowed 13 runs, eleven earned, on 23 hits, with 23 strikeouts, tied for second on the team, and eleven walks. Inden has started in his last two appearances, dropping both games. His last start was against Morris on April 5
th, where he only allowed two runs on five hits in five innings, striking out four, but still got the loss at 2-1. His season-high of nine strikeouts came against Clark State College back on March 16

Hunter Canning is 4-0 in eight appearances, with a 4.07 ERA. He's made five starts this season. Canning has thrown 24.1 innings, and given up 18 runs, eleven earned, on 20 hits, while striking out 23, tied with Inden and another player for second on the team, but also walking a team-high 16 batters. Canning earned the win in his last start back on April 5

The head coach for Sussex is Ramadan Mehmedi, now into his tenth season at the helm of the Skylanders. Mehmedi served as an assistant from 2010 through 2012, before taking over as head coach in the fall of 2013. Mehmedi, a Sussex grad and former baseball player for the Skylanders, went to NJCU after his time at Sussex, still playing baseball at the NCAA level. Mehmedi has an overall record of 149-179, and helped guide the Skylanders to the Region XIX playoffs last season, before falling to Lackawanna College.Â

The big weekend starts on Friday, April 21
st, when the Falcons travel to Branchburg, NJ to take on the Raritan Valley CC Lions in the first game of a three-game series this weekend. It'll be a single, nine-inning affair starting at 3:30pm ET. There is no video livestream available for Friday's game.
