MBB: Bears Claw Past Falcons As Lackawanna Drops At Home

Lackawanna College Battled Harcum Closer Than They Have In A Long Time, But It Wasn't Enough

2/4/23

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Lackawanna College pushed Harcum to the limit for the first time in a long time, but the Bears got the best of the Falcons for the eighth straight time, knocking off Lackawanna 85-77 in a Region XIX Division I/II crossover match-up on Saturday afternoon in the Lackawanna Student Union.

The Falcons (12-8) went toe-to-toe with the Bears (20-1) throughout the contest, as both teams swung the lead back-and-forth. After a wild first half that finished 46-all, the Falcons were down just three points nearing the midway point of the second half, when the shots started rimming out, and Harcum started taking advantage. The Bears lengthened the lead out to ten, and the Falcons couldn't get it closer than six the rest of the way.

Lackawanna College put four players in double-figures and shot 41% from the field and from three-point territory. The Falcons forced 20 turnovers and had eleven steals, but committed 21 of their own turnovers. Aamir Mack (Atlantic City, NJ) and Caleb Mims (Bethlehem, PA) each finished with 15 points to lead Lackawanna, with Mack posting eight rebounds and Mims posting six. Nasir Brown (Wilmington, DE) had 13 points off the bench, with five boards and four assists, while Nashawn Johnson (Bronx, NY) had 12 points and six rebounds.

The Bears shot 43% from the field and made eight more free throws than the Falcons, which was the deciding margin of victory. Harcum had four players in double-figures, with Tegra Izay leading the way with a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds. Jordon Mratin added 14 points and four assists, while Amahrie Simpkins had 13 points and seven rebounds and Po'Boigh King had 12 points and eight boards, as well as four assists.

Lackawanna is next in action with a Region XIX Division II contest, on the road, at Delaware Tech CC on Tuesday, February 7th. That game is set for a 7:00pm ET tip-off in Newark, DE at the Stanton campus of Delaware Tech.
