ES: Rocket League Sweep Highlights Tuesday Night Action

Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Also Competed Last Night

10/17/23

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Both Super Smash Brothers Ultimate and Rocket League competed on Tuesday night in a busy evening for Lackawanna College Esports.

The Super Smash Brothers squad ran into some tough competition, with three players getting tagged with losses, including the first losses of the year for Troy Torres (Gamertag: Surf) and Xavier Lasenburg (Gamertag: Lvl.X).

Bikrom Chanda (Gamertag: Ba$H) got the Falcons their lone win thanks to a forfeit victory, but Torres faced a tough player named Yashi from Lorain County CC who played as Yoshi. Yashi took the match, 3-1, over Torres and his Kayuza character.

Lasenburg, along with his usual selection of Ryu, dropped his first match of the season, 3-1, to Comet from Bryant & Stratton, who, coincidentally, also competed as Yoshi.

John Howells (Gamertag: Jan) dropped his match to the player Cup from Hudson Valley CC, who competed as Sephiroth and knocked off Howells's Bowser character.

Meanwhile, Rocket League had a successful night, knocking off Villanova University 3-1 (1-3, 6-1, 9-1, 9-3), and then beating the University of Dayton, 3-2 (4-3, 1-2, 1-3, 2-1, 2-1) to go 2-0 in NACE play.

The Falcons dropped the first game to Nova, but found their scoring touch in the following three games to cruise to the win. Guadalupe Oca (Gamertag: AyeOca) led the charge with ten goals, while Matthew Kelly (Gamertag: JKfoshizzle) added eight tallies, and Jakob Seamans (Gamertag: Jakob) put up seven goals to help pace the Falcons for the impressive win.

Match two with Dayton was a much tighter affair, with every game being decided by two or less scores. After falling behind 2-1 for the match, the Falcons rallied with a pair of 2-1 victories in games four and five to complete the comeback victory, helped by two goals from Seamans, and a goal apiece from Oca and Kelly. Seamans led the Falcons with four goals and an assist, while Kelly and Oca each had three goals and three assists to help the Falcons to the big win.

The Rocket League squad gets back to NJCAAE play this Friday, when they take on State Technical College of Missouri at 6:00pm ET.
