SCRANTON, Pa. --Â
Petey Tucker caught three touchdown passes and the Lackawanna College Falcons overcame an underwhelming performance to beat Hocking College 31-5 in a steady downpour on a cold and rainy Homecoming Saturday afternoon in Scranton.
Â
The #11 Falcons (6-1) weren't as crisp as they normally have been throughout the season, but they still managed 387 yards of offense and 24 first downs, while holding Hocking to 145 total yards and just ten first downs. Lackawanna built a 21-2 lead after one quarter, and coasted the rest of the way to earn its fourth straight win.
Â
Tucker
(Sophomore; Baltimore, MD) was the favored target from quarterback
Hamas Duren (Sophomore; Sicklerville, NJ), catching five passes for a team-best 108 yards and three scores, two coming in the first half. The two hooked up on the fifth play from scrimmage on a 31-yard touchdown pass that put Lackawanna up 7-0, early.
Â
After a safety gave Hocking (1-7) a little momentum, the Falcons defense forced the first of three turnovers when
Kai Hodge (Sophomore; Jacksonville, FL) dislodged the ball from the Hawks' running back at the Lackawanna 44. Five plays later, Duren lofted a pass towards the right side, where Tucker made a sensational effort to catch the ball, drag his foot, and get across the goal line for the touchdown, making it 14-2, Falcons.
Â
Tucker added a 4
th quarter touchdown that capped a 12-play drive and essentially iced the game. In between, the Falcons got a 71-yard interception return touchdown from
Devin Harper (Sophomore; Fort Mill, SC) and a 29-yard field goal from
Benjamin Paserk (Sophomore; Batavia, NY). The Lackawanna defense had eleven tackles for loss and forced three turnovers on the day.
Preston Green (Sophomore; Long Pond, PA) had seven tackles, four for loss, and a sack, while
Nyair Graham (First Year; Camden, NJ) added five tackles, and
Terence Folkes (Sophomore; Belleville, NJ) had four stops.
Â
Terrez Worthy (Sophomore; Salisbury, MD) managed to go over 100 yards rushing for the sixth time this season, despite being bottled up, for the most part, rushing for 126 yards on 28 carries. Worthy now has 2,002 yards in his career as a Lackawanna College back, pushing him to second all-time in rushing yards, and just the second running back in school history to go over the 2,000-yard mark. The only running back with more yards than Worthy in a Falcons uniform is Alan Jones, who ran for 2,409 yards in the 1998 and 2000 season.
Â
Duren finished 12-for-21 for 197 yards and three touchdowns, as well as an interception.
Â
Lackawanna will next be in action on Saturday, October 21
st, when the Falcons play host to the Connecticut State Prep Wildcats. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm ET at PenFed Field at Scranton's Memorial Stadium.
